Some practical advice:

For first time drivers, I believe that the first year would be full of problems.. it's like your initiation towards city driving. Expect a few bumps here and there. Personally, twice na ako nabanga..... isa sa jeep (hinto kasi ng hinto nsa blind spot ko pa pagright-turn ko) and isa sa puno (nasobrahan ko ng reverse)

Aside from that, smooth sailing naman 5 years of driving ko. I also suggest NOT panicking kung nahuli ka ng police. In fact, I outright discourage giving them bribes. Kung bata ka pa naman, there's a relatively high chance they'll forgive you if you're firm sa anti-corruption drive mo. I had a 80% success rate for this to the amazement of my friend as officers left me go due to "liking" my ethics.

Best case example was driving to school (Taft Ave corner near UN Ave) and was caught in the middle of the street due to the red light (due to traffic.. stop or go huli din ako since there's a police 3m ahead) I was charged for "obstruction" but I was firm na hindi ko siya ikokotong. He let me off. The funny thing here is that my friend who's in the front passenger seat at that time committed the SAME offense last week and was caught by the SAME personnel. Kinotong niya ng Php300

Of course, I had to change a bit of information like... how I'm going to UP Manila instead of DLSU hahaha..
