we're set on getting the 2008 honda jazz then we came upon the 1.8 a/t ford focus. now we're considering it.

given that it will be used mostly for going to office on weekdays (short 5 minute drive w/ no traffic) and going to the metro or farther on weekends (we live in the south), which of the two is a better option?

    our priorities are:
    1) fuel consumption
    2) comfort and easy handling
    3) reliability
    4) style and uniqueness

Hi there, personally, I'd go for Honda Jazz for its solid reliability. matipid din siya sa gas. . . and it's a Honda, known for its high resale value (even after many years of usage, just like the first gen Jazz)

the 08 honda jazz has also a new body shell. unlike the Ford focus, this is already on its. . .nth year (not sure, hehe)

My dad had a Ford Lynx, re-sale value sucks, even after just 3 years of use.

you might want to check Suzuki Swift as well. . . it's a complete built unit from Japan so reliability and craftmanship is really good.

hope these inputs helped you in a way.

at any rate. . . it's still your choice. . . it's your car . . .buy something that you really like!

you are comparing two different cars. a subcompact and a compact. if you don't need the space, i would just be recommending the jazz because it somehow fits your priorities.

    based on your priorities:

    1) fuel consumption = jazz obviously since honda is known to be very fuel efficient esp this model. but since you mentioned it only takes you 5 mins to get to the office then it really wouldn't matter much. but just in case, expect focus to average 7-8km in city driving while the jazz would go around 9-10km liter.

    2) comfort and easy handling = focus has the best handling among its peers, altis and civic included

    3) reliability = tie although some might argue that honda is more reliable. well, it all depends if proper maintenance is being followed by the owner. but the focus has been getting good reviews in the europe as well

    4) style and uniqueness = focus, you dont see too much focus on the road and you'll get to see hundreds of jazz soon...

I think you would be better with this:

    rather than this:

    Reason?
-fuel consumption, handling, and reliability favors the Jazz
-styling is in the eye of the beholder

The Focus is a much bigger car thus if offers more space. It has also a bigger displacement engine plus it is heavier. More stable but consumes gas a little bit more.

Built? I lean more towards the Jazz.

But yeah...tama si Silver Diva...buy the car that impressed you the most...that is where the love comes in esp. if you want to keep it for a long time.

    Cheers.

On handling, actually, it's about a tie. The Jazz is smaller and nimbler, but the Focus is a sweet handling car... best steering feel on the market, great chassis response and predictability (even better than the Jazz, though the Jazz has higher handling limits), and great confidence.

Seat comfort is also much better than the Jazz, even with the new Jazz seats. At least with the new Jazz, they're not torture anymore, but they're stil hard till they're broken in.

In all other aspects, it's the Jazz, hands down. Better motor, better transmission, better fuel economy... space that's better in every aspect except elbow room and trunk room.

Reliability: it's a draw. There have only been one or two major issues with the Focus... squeaking brakes and CV Joints. The CV Joints were a recall item on the 2.0 gas engine (not the 1.8 or 1.6), and squeaking brakes just squeak... they still work. Everything else is minor electrical gremlins (easily fixed and under warranty). The first-gen Jazz had front "kalampag" (poor bushings), dash rattles, some electrical gremlins with the AT and some trim issues. The CVTF issue was a recall item, but the new Jazz has a 5-speed AT, not a CVT.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
