I'd take the RS too. Considering the price difference and engine power.

wait for the new civic next year, maybe they will include fog lamps and improve some cosmetic stuff. 1st year they will always be 'tipid' on the customer.

ganda talaga handling ng lynx. napapangiti ako palagi kapag mabilis ako sa kurbada, minimal ang roll minsan wala naman kung tama yung entry point.

Hehe... any wonder why I have scratch marks on my mags? The RS encourages you to cut corners as closely as possible... ...that cushion of understeer you expect from most front-drive cars is largely absent in the RS, so once you point it, it turns... period.

hehe even the ghia is already fun to drive but this RS is miles away. just a few more 'good' neurons to deactivate and I'll sell this ghia and replace it with a 'gasp' a secondhand RS!

Niky, ganun ba talaga kalambot ang clutch ng RS? And what things do I look for or to watchout when getting a secondhand one? How bout parts, same lang ba na price as ghia or more expensive? TIA

    Back to topic -

Depende sa priority nung original poster:

    1. Civic 1.8 has more room and its more comfortable than the Lynx RS.
    2. Civic has very good mileage ave nung sa sis ko is 10 kpl city.
    3. Civic will probably be as common as the current Altis in 2 or 3 years. so parts and resale value will sure be up to par.

    1. Lynx RS is a daaym fine car. It's point and shoot accurate steering cannot be matched by all the other car's Ive driven (incl the Ghia).
    2. It's FAST! no doubt, a lot faster than even the SIR in real world driving.
    3. It's suspension damping is so solid.

    Sa LYNX talaga ko.

The Civic does have quite a bit more room, but seat comfort is just about the same (except for the OA lumbar support on the driver's seat... but maybe I'm just too fat! ).

The clutch on the RS isn't too light or too heavy, just too... uncommunicative. Taken in context, it's as vague as the steering on a Corolla. Once you're going fast... no problem! But in traffic, it can get tiring.

Parts are mostly interchangeable with the Ghia, but suspension tuning is different, and of course, the engine and all accessories are bespoke, so parts will cost you more.

For secondhand RS's, it's the usual things to watch out for... plus wheel bearings and bushings (wear out if the car is driven hard very often) and brakes (same thing).

Don't get one that's been turbo'd. These motors may be two liter sportsters, but they're not ultra-stiff and strong blocks like the Lancer's 4G63, the Altima's SR20 or the Honda's new K20.

If you get one with a modified suspension and power adders, check the engine condition very carefully. With many cars, you can't corner the car fast enough to damage the engine. With the RS, if you've made it substantially faster than stock, it's quite easy.

This is not an inherent weakness in the RS, however. Drive any car through a high speed corner fast enough, and it'll choke on its own guts, as the oil creeps away from the oil pickup and the engine dries up and burns out. It's just that most cars can't corner fast enough to do this, not even an SiR. The RS, given good engine, suspension and tire mods and a clear race track, can.

There are three or four that have been overhauled already, due to... aherm... over-exuberant driving and aggressive modification. If you get one that's been overhauled, lucky you! You get a virtually new engine... and at a cheaper price.

ayan si niky... totoo lahat ang sinasabi nya about Lynx RS.

an0nim0us - if ever kukuha ka talaga ng RS tapos price nag ~ave P550K at model 2004/2005... wow mura na yon. syempre iba pa rin brand new like 8th gen civic.

    thanks Niky.

NSL, yeah, Im thinking of getting a replacement for the Ghia and the best candidate so far is the RS if 2ndhand, Mazda 3 2.0 is another very tempting choice pero medyo mahal pa.

Sorry RSR, na-hijack ko yata yung thread!

Sayang... one just went at 580k... with only 4.5k km on the clock and the interior still in showroom condition. That one was tempting...

A Mazda3 2.0R is a good alternative. It's slower in a straight line, but the Mazda3 has pretty good steering, looks good, and has a much better interior, with more supportive seats. Fuel consumption is pretty good, and driven conservatively, it can get around 8 km/l in city conditions.

The Activematic transmission is still nothing to write home about... but at least it's not as hardheaded as Ford's version. Still, some control is better than none...
