...i heard that we'll be getting the 1.8L as the low-line VTi/VTi-S models
and the current 2.0L in the Civic as topline engine.
so, i bet still no CVT but a 5speed AT across the board.

Too bad we don't get the USDM look, but at least the technology is promising.

13-14km/L highway for an altis 1.8G seems just about right. is that an auto or a manual?
got back from baguio over the weekend, 11km/L (going up) and 12km/L (coming down). 2.0L manual, decade-old engine

2zz ge ('duzzy') 1.8L has a VVTL-i (GE) head, USDM - Corolla XRS, Celica, Lotus Elise. no locally available car here has this engine. This is the high HP, hi-rpm engine, redlines at 8,300rpm to unleash the 170/180 ponies from the stock configuration.
3zz fe 1.6L has VVT-i (FE) head, 1.6J 1.6E Altis, Configuration is similar to the izzy.
BTW - 1.8G gives about 8-10 km/L City and 13-15 km/l hiway. high range with heavy speaker box and 15in rims, low range uses 17in rims. with some hard overtaking and some O.D. while doing so = )

Sayang naman they didn't come up with a 1.6 GE head. The Blacktop, if I'm not mistaken, was the best mass-produced high-powered 1.6. I really wish they improve on it even more.

is that a manual or an auto? forgive my ignorance, is there even a manual 1.8G?

AT lang ang 1.8, AFAIK. If they brought in the manual, it could go even further on the gas. The 1.8 is a good engine, if not exactly as powerful as Toyota claims it to be... in C!'s latest 0-100 kph test, it could only do 0-100 in 11.2 seconds. The supposedly weaker Sentra 180GT and Lancer 1.8 MX both did it in under 11. Other "135" to "140" HP cars like the Lynx RS AT (in Taiwan), the Mazda3 2.0R, and the Focus do it in around 9 and a half.
The Honda has been tested to do it under 9, but that's 155hp. The Lynx RS MT does it in 8.3.
Again, the 1.8 G Altis engine is really smooth and good at fuel conservation, but it's not 145hp. More like 120.Last edited by niky; January 9th, 2006 at 02:28 PM.

^^^ yup, that's right, it's a/t. I've no first hand experience as to how fast it can be in the 0-100, but it's able i'm tellin' you guys, at least for everyday driving. I think the 1.8 izzy's 145 hp is overrated, 120hp's a bit underrated tho. I've seen specs from other countries putting it at around 135. WHP's another story.
My daily drive is the Altis and switching to the Lynx (1.6) on coding days' a disappointing experience for me in terms of smoothness, comfort and accelleration when overtaking. Civic's not far ahead of the Lynx except for the better a/c and roomier interior. I'm comparing the 1.6 lynx and the 1.6 civic to a 1.8G so it might not be a fair deal. I've limited experience with the 1.6 Altis but it's smoothness and torque delivery is similar to that of the 1.8's. Apple to apple, I'd still go for the Altis = ) hey, I'm a daddy now and I dont go for fast cars anymore hehehe.
