    Hi All,

Gusto ko po sanang bumili ng sasakyan and may nakita akong wagon na 99 model pero automatic. May friend ako na sabi na wag daw matic bilhin kase po mahihirapan ako sa pagpapagawa.

Any thoughts on this? Should I stick to manual transmission used cars po?

Thanks in advance and happy new year!

Depends on the actual condition of the transmission. Given the car is thirteen years old already, there may be significant damage to the clutch packs if the previous owner was not meticulous about maintenance and proper driving technique.

Only an actual test drive will tell you if there's a problem.

There is also the Suzuki Esteem, which is more likely what the threadstarter is talking about.

Kung posible mag manual, manual na. Aside from the problem of the transmission's health, there's also the fact that old matic trannies are dumb shifters and are very thirsty at the pump.

If you're looking for such an old car with automatic transmission, get one with a 4-speed Aisin. They're still the easiest ones to find replacement parts, and reliable enought to remain available in the 1.6L Altis.

The '95 Opel Astra is also a nice option.

Altough nowadays it's pretty much neglected by the market, is still one of the most reliable from its class at the time it was made. Plus having the Aisin 4-speed transmission it would ease an eventual retrofitting of a Toyota engine
