Pardon lol. Fort is shorthand for Fortuner in some circles...

I have my sight set on Forester iP but waiting for CR-V 7-seater next Tuesday. Although the offer from RCBC with Subaru BGC (40K off) is tempting.

I also want one with a diesel engine, of course, but there's so much factors to take into consideration that it's starting to blow off my mind

    1) CX-5, I like its exterior but dislike its interior. The 3-year free maintenance is definitely a plus!
    2) Civic, I like its exterior and interior but is a Sedan
    3) XV, I like its exterior and interior but based on the comments here the usable space of the Civic is more than the XV
    4) Forester, I like its interior but dislike the exterior
    5) Montero, highly-rated, I don't like the taillights, and there's too much of them in our country
    6) CR-V, I like the exterior and interior
    7) Rav4, I haven't checked on this much but I'm hearing good things about it

What brand is the "Fort"? I can't seem to find it in Google.
Ask yourself what do you really want to have? Based on your choices, it seems you are leaning more towards a CUV instead of a sedan.

Despite the Civic being just a sedan, it's the best driving vehicle on your list followed by the CX5 and then the Subarus. The Civic RS (in case you opt for it) is also the top choice in terms of performance.

Now, if you wanted something with a diesel engine but with the handling/performance of a compact sedan, I guess the best choice is the VW Jetta 2.0L TDI.

The best thing to do is go to a showroom and test-drive your options. The one that feels fit to your driving style and needs will mostly be the winner.

Lol, I knew I was missing something. I'm not sure why Fortuner didn't come to mind.

So 40K discount is the most discount you can get from Subaru BGC nowadays?

You're right. It does look like I'm leaning towards the XV but I want to make sure I'm making the right choice.

I agree with the Civic. If it weren't for my dog, I would get that in a heartbeat. It's just that if I get the Civic, my dog might start scratching it I put him in the backseat when we're travelling. If I opt for the XV instead, I can bring him together in a cage that will stay in the back (backseats folded if needed). I know it's one minor consideration but I have to include it in my list. Are there any interior car covers that are designed to alleviate this issue?

Is the Honda Sensing technology a good suite of safety features? Does Subaru have all those as well?

I checked the VW's that you recommended but I don't like their looks and this is why I'm not mentioning them if you noticed.

Yes, I'll definitely start going to showrooms for test drives. Do you guys have any recommended dealerships for the the cars that I'm interested in? What's the difference between them anyway?

Re: Subaru discount from BGC - I wasn't even aware of it. It was a RCBC who told me. I'll probe if I can get more or lower the interest rate sub-5% over 60.

You can also fold down the Civic's rear seats to fit a cage. How big is your dog anyway? The cage might fit inside the Civic's rear without folding anything down. Best way to check is to bring your cage when you visit the showrooms.

Local Civics don't have Honda Sensing technology. But the Civic 1.8 comes complete with all the safety features you need - dual airbags, ABS, traction control. The XV has all these too.

In terms of dealerships, you just have to go to different dealerships and compare their best deals. No single dealership is better than others all the time - it will always be a case to case basis, so it's really best for you to shop around.

My dog is a Chow and I'm not sure if it will fit the Civic. His cage measures 90.5"x56"x65.5". It fits the back of my Montersport 2008 model.

Why didn't they implement the Honda Sensing tech?

Regarding the dealership, ok I'll do that. Thanks.

That's a very big cage at over 7 feet long, almost 6 feet wide, and over 6 feet high. I assume it barely fits your Montero if those measurements are correct. The old Montero is only 71" wide, roughly the same as the current Civic and Forester. The XV is only 68" wide.

If the cage is 65.5" high, that definitely won't fit the Civic even with the seats down as the car is too low. Most likely won't fit the XV too. The Forester has more space than both, but you don't like its exterior so that's too bad.

Because it'll drive prices higher and people would rather buy a cheaper car without that feature. As it is, the Civic 1.8 is already very feature-packed for its price - remote start, keyless entry, push button ignition, automatic LED headlamps, climate control, cruise control, Android Auto, Apple Carplay, Bluetooth/iPod connectivity, hill start assist, traction control, and so on.

Stupid me, those measurement are in centimeters, not inches! Sorry.

Will the local 2018 CRV have the Honda Sensing tech?
