Surprisingly, quite good.
The Alphard is based heavily on the Camry.
Unsurprisingly, during our testing, the Alphard drove just like that... a much heavier Camry V6 with a slightly longer wheelbase.
It was less than a second slower to 100 km/h (faster, in fact, than a V6 Explorer). It was almost as quick through the slaloms. And it braked slightly better... probably because of the better front-rear weight distribution.
I would, without hesitation, take an Alphard out on the racetrack. Good steering, low center of gravity (despite the tall looks, a van like that has all its mechanicals down low, unlike an SUV where the floor, differentials and engine are raised higher off the ground), great brakes.
All you would have to do to make it more potent is to strip the interior and power amenities. It's around 2 tons, that would take it down to around 1.8 tons. Then replace the doors with carbon fiber or even just fiberglass. Add a sports suspension (hoping Camry struts and springs fit) and you're done!
Of course, it would be nice to add a supercharger for more oomph...

Naghahanap na ata siya ngayon ng Alphard with carbon fiber doors.
Amusing how i remember the TS started by just looking for a car since ayaw lang niya ata mag commute/taxi after his model shoots or something... ngayon gusto na niya rezing-rezing. Follow what the others said and don't listen to the BS some people tell you of having to mod up, "gauge", etc... There will always be bigger fish in the ocean and if you want to have serious speed, you better have the bakal, skills and wallet to back it up. And do keep it off the streets.
Go with what SiRbossR said. Keep it clean, put nice mags and just keep the car maintained and running well.Last edited by vinj; February 23rd, 2012 at 09:26 AM.

Less chassis/suspension flexing makes handling better & sharper.
Note: suspension upgrades for better performance usually ends up with (bad) stiff ride which is uncomfortable as daily driver. The key in a daily driven street car is the balance between comfort & performance.Last edited by ghosthunter; February 23rd, 2012 at 11:05 AM.

On the Carens, I'd go with the rear anti-sway bar and the front four-point. Forget the tower brace, most modern cars don't need it since the strut towers are triangulated into the firewall already.
I don't know if you'll notice the front four-point or tower brace, but you'll definitely notice the rear anti-sway bar on a vehicle as soft as the Carens.
