September 3rd, 2007 10:16 PM #14Wala bang 1-2 years old na 2nd hand na may warranty kahit 1 year lang o 6 months? Hindi ba madalang ang nagbebenta ng ganun kabago?

New vehicle warranties are fully transferable to the new owner provided the previous owner has not violated any terms of the warranty.
So if you buy a 2year old Hyundai with a five year warranty, you still have a 3 year warranty left.

it's true that a new car depreciates as soon as you drive it off the lot. not sure about 100k, but it's a significant amount. so tama sila, ikaw sasalo ng expense.
also, if you like to modify your car, manghihinayang ka sa brand new because certain mods (especially the engine/electrical ones) will void parts of your warranty...and having a warranty is the point of having a new car, right? ;)
so what are the pros? a lot of is is psychological...pride of ownership, pride of being able to buy a new car, supposed peace of mind.

the standard rule of the thumb is that a vehicle loses 15-20% of its value every year. so that on the second year, the car's value is already at 80-85% of the original purchase cost. third year, its value is already at the 60-65%, and so on and so forth.
The depreciation in a car's first year (as i've mentioned above) tends to be even steeper. A new-car owner feels the sting immediately. A new car loses a big chunk of its value as soon as you drive it off the lot. Here's why.
When purchasing the car, you paid a retail price -- the price a dealer charges for a car. As soon as you're off the lot, the car is worth its wholesale price, the amount a dealer would be willing to pay for a car should you turn around and head back.
So a brand-spanking-new vehicle loses thousands of pesos of value as soon as you drive it home. Whatever money you spent on taxes and other expenses is gone for good as well.
At this rate, the better option is to get a 2 or 3 year old car at wholesale price already. As Otep mentioned, if the vehicle is still under warranty, it can be transferred to you, as long as the terms of the warranty are not violated.
Hope this helps.Last edited by 1D4LV; September 7th, 2007 at 12:46 PM.
