June 14th, 2004 04:04 PM #34here's what i can suggest.
get the audio CDs ripped using software called EAC (Exact Audio Copy), and set its ripping to 256kbps stereo.
previously when the site r3mix.net was up and running, i had studies regarding MP3 (i was engrossed at that subject way back then). one of the items there mentioned that for archiving the quality of audio CDs, 256kbps is almost indistingushable from audio CDs as played on strictly controlled equipments and sampled by qualified hearing sensitive audiophiles (these individuals are gifted and can sense differences in frequencies and bitrates even if they don't see the sound source).
my HU is a basic Pioneer 3550MP (MP3 capable). whenever possible, i make it a point to encode my MP3s at 256kbps stereo (320kbps if possible), and i can't tell the difference (i'm quite a sound sensitive freak myself).
