SQ segment of the competition:

2 Classes: Amateur and Pro

There will be 2 power classes for Amateur:
1-800
801-up

the reason why we jacked up the wattage limit by 200 watts was because during the past competitions, we've noticed that there are actually only a few systems that go down 600w. this increases the level of competition within the wattage classes

what class will i be?

if this will be the competitors' first time to join an audio competition, then he is qualified as an amateur. Any entry who has entered a competition such as EMMA, IASCA, KACompetition or other shows and has placed will automatically be moved to the pro category. Amateur competitors will also be given the option to elevate him/herself to the pro category.

several aspects of your total system will be scrutinized. basic system checks such proper connections to the left and right channels will be important. anyone who fails the initial test will not be judged further. other areas of the totality of the competitors sound system will also be checked such as installation integrity, safety... etc.

for the amateur category, it shall be one seat judging.
the once the competitor turns the car over to be judged, he/she is not allowed to change ANY settings when judging starts.
please take note that for both amateur and pro sections, the center image should be located in the middle of the dashboard and not the middle of the driver's listening position.

the competitor can opt to join the installation judging or not. once joining the installation segment, the competitor stands to be considered as a contender for the best overall system.

best overall system will mean that the competitor has achieved a high total when both installation and SQ scores have been added.

penalties:
should the competitor be late for registration, a penalty of 10 points will be deducted from the total score.

since this will be a point system for both competitions (additional points will be awarded to the competitor who joins both competitions), for the points to be valid the winners of each class and category, they will still remain in their respective categories (amateur will still be amateur for the next competition).

There are limitations for any modifications of their systems:
1. they should stay within their previous wattage class
2. no increase in the speaker sizes
3. no additional components to be added (processors, speakers or amplifier)
4. change in power supply (battery, fusing, power cables) will be accepted
5. change in trunk layout is acceptable
6. headunit upgrade are acceptable
7. additional deadening is acceptable
8. changes in speaker placement is acceptable
9. number of components can be reduced but not added (from a multi amp to a single amp... et al)

these conditions have been considered since the time between the summer competition and the anniversary is significant and we'd rather not prevent competitors from doing minor upgrades. should the conditions mentioned above not be met, the competitor will either forfeit the accumulated points from the previous competition.

OR be deducted minor points (2 points each) for every component changed. but they must satisfy the conditions set in #1,2,3 and 9.

amendment to the rules...

it was clarified the polarity isn't much of an issue. so we can skip that test. lets go back to kindergarten and just go left and right balance checks. if the competitor fails that one... he's a total idiot.

sub categories with respect to the criteria for judging will be announced on the event itself.
we will be using the basic criteria in SQ. Imaging, Sound stage, tonality, dynamics... etc.

General Guidelines:

*KAC reserves the right to "inspect" a competitor's vehicle in order to verify compliance with the rules. During this time, the competitor will be asked to show and/or explain various features of the vehicle and its sound system.

*The vehicle must be driven into and out of the judging lanes, we do not have valet service.

*A vehicle may not be judged while connected to a battery charger or power supply, we have limited funds which does not cover Meralco charges.

*The competitor is responsible for his equipment and KAC takes over no responsibility or guarantees in case of any damage to the sound system or the vehicle. We would however have an auction afterwards for those who lost in the competition and want to sell their damaged goods.

*It is the competitor’s decision to sit inside his car during the judging process. KAC is not responsible for damages to the health of the competitor. WEAR HEARING PROTECTION!!!

Official Guidelines:

*KAC considers speakers with advertised maximum diameters of 8 inches or larger to be woofers.

*Vehicle Type, Size & Number of woofers will determine the appropriate category.

*Only the official program material is to be used for the judging process and the announced track will be played.

*Term-Lab SPL meter will be used.

*Two cars will be parked side by side and judged simultaneously.

*The measurement will be with windows & doors closed – a minimum 30 seconds of music will be played.

*KAC official musical CD will be used

Additional Guidelines:

*The program material being played must originate from a source unit that is specifically designed for installation and operation in a 12-Volt auto sound environment. This includes cassette decks, CD players and changers, DVD players and changers, VCR’s and VCP’s, MP3 units, AM / FM / Satellite radio tuners, and any other playback device that is specifically designed for installation and operation in a 12-Volt auto sound environment.

*The program media may be from a commercial source (such as a CD you purchase) or a custom, homemade recording.

*Tone generators, frequency multipliers, harmonizers, etc. are prohibited.

* Adjustments to the sound system may be made while the vehicle is being metered as long as no other applicable rules are violated during the adjustment process. (Metering is the process where the Sound Pressure Level or SPL of your vehicle is measured )

* Operation of the vehicle or sound system must not endanger the judge, competitor, spectators, or any real or personal property on the premises.

*The vehicle’s parking brake must be set.

*The hood must be closed.

*The maximum engine idle speed must not exceed 2000 RPM.

*DQ will be applied for competitors for opening windows or doors beyond 30 seconds timer.

*When the SPL metering process begins, contestants will have 30 seconds to achieve their highest Sound Pressure Level (SPL). The SPL metering equipment will record and save each competitor’s high score during this 30 second judging interval.

*The passenger compartment and listening / measurement compartment shall be one and the same. (Intent: Measurements should be taken inside the passenger compartment.)

*No partitions or other barriers may divide or compartmentalize the passenger compartment. (Intent: The listening environment should approximate that found in a typical vehicle.)

*The windshield and front doors to the vehicle must function as an unobstructed boundary to the passenger compartment.

*Sound producing devices must not interfere with the measurement equipment. This includes, but is not limited to; horns, wave-guides, vents, or other devices that are deliberately placed in close proximity to the measurement sensor.

*The cabin of the vehicle may not be “pressurized” or “de-pressurized” with a gas or fluid of any type. In addition, the air inside of the cabin may not be replaced with a gas or fluid of any type.

DB Race

*Open to all competitors who want measure their ability in playing with their system yet developing friendly atmosphere.
*Only the official program material is to be used for the judging process and the announced track will be played.
*No restrictions in vehicle type and number of woofer(s) but the Match Classification will be followed

DB Race mechanics
db racing is a brilliant idea and is more about controlling your knob than out and out loudness. You qualify to be in a 6 dB ‘bracket’ and then you compete. What you need to do is work out how loud your system is and try to hit an average score. The two cars competing go head to head and play bass for 30 seconds. As they play, the meter records an average. If you reckon you will be between 125dB and 130dB you try to average under 130.0dB. If you get over excited and crank the volume too hard at the end, you go over and lose by disqualification. It is very like bracket racing on the real drag strip.
It’s about control and repeatability as well as coolness under pressure. It always the laid back who win db Race. It’s brilliant fun to commentate and I have had a go. The big boys are especially cool as they try to hold between 145dB and 150dB. If one gets a bit ahead – as they want to see a score as close to the maximum without going over, so as to beat their opponent, you can be suckered into over bassing it and blowing out. The really cool thing is that you can compete with very little kit. Any sort of reasonably potent bass system can compete, even a single eight incher.

db race is a new format of auto sound competition specifically tailored for “real” auto sound systems.”

Basic Rules
1. Contestants must play music (instead of tones, sweeps, etc.)
2. Contestants are classified by the performance of their system (as opposed to equipment, cost, experience, etc.)
3. Contestants are required to skillfully control the operation of their sound system. (This added dimension adds excitement to the contest.)
4. A db race competition is comprises two parts. Qualifying & Eliminations.

Qualifying and Elimination
During qualifying and elimination, each contestant’s sound system is measured with an SPL (Sound Pressure Level) meter. This meter measures the average SPL of the contestant’s sound system in dB over a period of 30 seconds. (You can only use music CDs while competing. In addition, all doors, windows, and other openings to the vehicle must be closed.) At the end of the 30 second measurement period, the contestant will be placed into one of five db Race classes based upon their score:

A. 125to 130dB
B. 130.0dB to 135.0dB
C. 135.0dB to 140.0dB
D. 140.0dB to 145.0dB
E. 145.0 db to 150

This method of classification groups contestants with similar scores in the same class. The result is a contest that is fair for the contestants and exciting for everyone!

After everyone has had an opportunity to qualify, the four loudest contestants in each class are randomly paired against one another in the elimination bracket. Each pairing of competitors goes up against one another head-to-head. The winner advances to the next round and the loser is eliminated from the contest. This continues (semi-finals and finals) until there is a winner for each class.
The elimination rounds are where things get tricky. The following violations will result in a score of ZERO.
1. Red Light – Playing your sound system BEFORE the 30 second clock begins.
2. Over Shot – Exceeding your classes’ maximum score at any time during the run. (Example: A contestant scoring a 132.0 at any time during an elimination run in the 125.0 – 130 class would result in a score of ZERO.)
3. Over Rev – Revving the motor in excess of 2000 RPM.
Venting – Opening a door, trunk, hatch, sun-roof, window, etc. during the run.
4. High Freq – Playing a bass note in excess of 80 Hz to obtain a maximum average score.
5.Test Tones – Using test tones or sine sweeps for program material.

Tie Breaker
In the case of a tie, the following steps will take place to determine the winner.
First Tie-Breaker – Re-run the round.
Second Tie-Breaker – Shut down the engines and re-run the round.
Third Tie-Breaker - change the cd

Tips, Tricks, and Techniques
Music – Find a commercially available music CD (no test tones, etc.) that contains a minimum of 30 seconds of bass. Each sound system is different so don’t hesitate to experiment to find the song that works best for you.

As you can see, reaction time is crucial. But be careful. If you play your system prior to the start of measurement, you will “Red Light” and your score for the run at initial setting.

Be Prepared – Have your CD ready. Reaction time is very important. You want bass music to begin as soon as the SPL meter starts to measure. Songs with long introductions (and no bass) are not recommended. Music tracks with a strong and continuous bass beat work best.

Stay Informed – Once in the lanes, park your car so that you can clearly see the display score board. The information displayed here is critical to controlling your sound system. Remember, you want to maximize your average score WITHOUT busting out of your class (Over Shot). For example: If you are competing in the 125 to 130 class, the ideal score would be a 130.0 This is as loud as you can play your system without exceeding your class maximu

Term-Lab SPL meter will be used.

re-hits are not allowed
upgrades to higher level not allowed

"KAC official cd will be used

basic safety installation will also be judged
this will be done after the competition
