Actually, both ported and sealed enclosures means that you can't see the magnet (unless you made one side of the box out of transparent material like a plexiglass) but you can still see the woofer's cone.

The JBL GT5 is a very well known entry-level subwoofer so there's no question about its quality. The "tunog" can easily be fixed with proper tuning. Most "kicks" (most evident is from the kick drum) we feel are actually from the midbass rather than the subwoofer (you feel this around 80-100hz) assuming you cut your low-mid transition to around 80hz (typical cutoff)

Yun "bilog like ma-blog like cannon" is a ported box. Always remember to deaden your doors. I feel you'll have a lot of improvement just from that alone.
