October 24th, 2006 07:42 PM #21for me the lowest 3 series should atleast be the 2.0l. although masmalakas sa gas konti atleast medyo respectable naman un power.
pero oo nga iba talaga ang bmws and benz. parang solid lahat ang gawa... it really does feel heavy compared to the japs. sa japs parang lata and it makes u feel fast even if ur only going at 60kph. mas calm and collected ang european cars pero i think the japs are catching up.

October 26th, 2006 10:52 AM #24Kikkoman kung bibili ka ng 316I medyo bitin sa power but BMW pa rin sya. I had a 320I before sarap but parts were expensive those days kasi kay Hahn Manila lang meron unless you go to HK. Compared to the merc bmw pa rin ako. Japanese cars are really fast now but yung ride ng Euro iba pa rin.

i'm driving an E36 lately. it's been with us for 10yrs na casa maintained. minor quirks here and there. iba feeling compared to driving a Japanese car. i was surprised how effortlessly it did 100-165kph by just stepping on the gas, no need to downshift. you can almost feel how stable it is at those speeds.
Head turner pa rin kahit 10yrs old na. before it was around 1.3M now the resale value is around 400k or lower pero place it side by side sa Japanese car kahit sa 500k na SiR iba pa rin yung dating ng bimmer kahit 1.6 lang yung engine. The 320i may be better than the 316 pero most of our rides we prefer a manual tranny than a matic tranny. yung sa 320i matic lang yata lung lumabas locally AFAIK.
as for maintenance andyan naman Autovec for the service and European Motors/ Basics Libis for the parts you need

Ok nga iyang 316i, people think its junk kaya bagsak ang presyo. Buyer's market sa segunda mano.
Yung kapatid ko may tama ata, binibigyan ng 316i dati pero tinaggihan. Sayang!

problema lang kasi sa 316i is the underpowered engine in a heavy chassis, worse is mas mahina pa ang engine nya compared to some japanese sedans like the ek civic or rolla gli(not sure). kaya dinidismiss agad ng normal car owners/buyers na trying hard bimmer. pero it is 'ok' na for the non power hungry drivers and casual drivers. di naman lahat speed ang habol. + din sa 316i ang manual tranny. and bimmers are known for their straight six engines kasi..not 4bangers..add to the fact na the 316i variant is not available in some countries kaya pinagtatawanan sa mga international bimmer forums. heck even the 320i e pinagtatawanan

Power is not everything. I've been driving sub-100bhp vehicles almost every single day, nakakarating pa din naman ako sa pupuntahan ko in style and comfort.

Actually, the maintenance cost of a 316i E36 isn't that far off from an Accord from the same era.
Issue ko lang sa mga E36 sirain ang interior at mga rubber moldings/weatherstrip.
