I remember back in highschool a classmate of mine brags that his aunt who's working for the customs can get 5-series BMWs for less than 50K and sell it for over 1.5M, etc...

July 10th, 2007 06:07 PM #44If my recollection is correct, the appraised values of the vehicles cited in this report were not the value for purposes of paying import taxes. Rather, they are the appraised value which will serve as minimum bid prices for the public auction. Mababa na talaga appraised value ng mga vehicles na yan since pag nakita ko yung actual condition nila, grossly depreciated na. As in wala ng computer box, parts, gulong, etc. Saka mostly right hand drive ang mga ito kaya ipapaconvert pa ng winning bidder hence, mababa talaga presyo.
For those importing vehicles from abroad, AFAIK may "blue book" ang Customs kung saan nakalagay yung rate of taxes. Altho meron talaga corruption

dapat VAT lang bayaran sa mga auto. yung yearly registration na lang iangat nila.
