I can already see what kind of appeal it has, but I think it needs to go back to the drawing board to refine some bits. Otherwise it should be a good "upgrade" from the older 7er.

When it comes to elegance, however, the S, Audi A8, and Jag have much more presence than this.

    536 hp Twin-Turbo V12, 8-speed automatic, 0-60mph in less than 4.6 seconds!

    2010 BMW 760Li

    -NetCarShow

MUNICH, Germany — BMW is redefining the term flagship with its revamped 760i and long-wheelbase 760Li sedans, both of which are powered by an all-new twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 mated to a new eight-speed automatic transmission jointly developed with ZF.

The new 12-cylinder engine features gasoline direct-injection technology. Its output is 536 horsepower, with torque peaking at 553 pound-feet. BMW says the powertrain returns a respectable 18 mpg on the European cycle, while enabling 0-60-mph acceleration in less than 4.6 seconds — nothing short of remarkable for a large luxury sedan.

The company is also planning to couple the eight-speed automatic with its Active Hybrid technology, which combines a V8 gasoline engine with an electric motor. BMW says to look for a production-ready 7 Series Hybrid to appear later this year, perhaps at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show.

The automaker continues to develop and fit other emerging technologies as well to the big sedans. Standard equipment on the latest iterations includes Dynamic Damping Control and Dynamic Drive (roll stability). The 760Li also gets a self-leveling air suspension. Both models can be ordered with Integral Active Steering, which features speed-related adjustment of the steering angle on the rear wheels for enhanced high-speed stability.

A dizzying array of high-tech options is available: Lane Change Warning, lane-departure warning, Active Cruise Control with stop-and-go function, Night Vision with detection of individual persons, a head-up display, back-up camera, sideview system, high-beam assistant and adaptive headlights, including Bending Lights, variable light distribution and adaptive headlight range control.

The 760Li gets a 5.5-inch stretch in the wheelbase, with a concurrent increase in rear-passenger head- and legroom. Both models feature opulent cockpits trimmed in napa leather, Alcantara and burr walnut, with a full range of high-end accessories.

    BMW 7 ActiveHybrid

BMW has revealed their new 7-Series ActiveHybrid, ahead of its official unveiling at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Scheduled to go on sale in the United States next spring, the new 7-Series Hybrid was designed to set "new standards for performance and efficiency in the premium luxury class."

Power comes from a modified version of BMW's 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine which is equipped with a 3-phase synchronous electric motor. Thanks to this unique mix of performance and technology, the engine has a combined output of 455 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. Backed up by an 8-speed automatic transmission, the 7-Series Hybrid accelerates from 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds, while achieving a 15% improvement in fuel efficiency (compared to the 750i).

BMW also equips the 7-Series ActiveHybird with an automatic stop/start system. The system "avoids" engine idling when the car is stopped, but still allows operation of the vehicle's air conditioning and ventilation system via the lithium-ion battery. Other green technologies include Brake Energy Regeneration, two interconnected on-board power networks (a 12-volt network for the standard car battery and a 120-volt network for the lithium-ion battery), and a 400 watt-hour 35 cell lithium-ion battery which weighs 59.5 lb (27 kg) and measures 14.6 x 8.7 x 9.1 inches (37 x 22 x 23 centimeters).

Despite looking like a standard 7-Series, the ActiveHybrid is outfitted with a number of discrete styling tweaks. The exterior boasts aerodynamically-tuned ten-spoke 19-inch light-alloy Aero wheels as well as special badging on the trunk lid, C-pillars, and door cutouts. Inside, the car has various displays to inform occupants about the efficiency and current operating status of the hybrid components.
