April 22nd, 2012 04:42 PM #103i agree with you on that. my almost 20-year old E30 still drives pretty well. way better than my former 8 y/o civic and city. but this thread kasi i noticed maraming nagtatanong if it's a good idea/good buy to get a bimmer as your only daily driver or as your first car. hence, a newer asian car gets my vote.
i like the simplicity of the 80's german cars particularly the E30 and 124.

April 27th, 2012 01:14 AM #105somebody once told me that if you can't afford to buy a new euro car, don't purchase a used one. the cost and maintenance will become an isssue for someone who's on a budget.

April 29th, 2012 12:32 PM #106If I can afford a new euro car I'll still buy the fairly new second hand one, if only to save on the initial depreciation. However, if at your current income, you can afford the maintenance but not the new euro car, then by all means get the euro car if that's your dream car.
Ideally, for people who are not filthy rich, you should have a fuel efficient low maintenance jap car and then you can have your second hand euro car that you only use once or twice a week and for special occasions. Rotating them is important so that the engine oil does not go all into the oil pan due to prolonged disuse.
A second hand BMW as a daily driver? Possible if your work is nearby, but if your work is far, you might be better off with the jap car as your daily driver. That's for regular people, of course if you're filthy rich it doesn't matter if you use it everyday.

April 30th, 2012 02:31 PM #107not really. If you know what/where/how to buy a used bmw, owners' experience can be rewarding. Iba pa din syempre ang bnew. 3 series is a good model to start. 2nd hand prices are pretty reasonable, too. Magastos compared to a jap/kor brand pero kung wala ka namang bisyo like sugal or whatever, rewarding yourself isn't selfish. My 320i e36 is my daily drive pag walang delivery. For 350k or less you drive a better car than let's say, a civic or an altis. I say better 'cos i know my car pretty well. Parts are reasonble na din.
