Avanza DIY (Engine Hood Cover - under)

Hi guys,
Instead of buying the engine hood cover which would probably cost more than 1k pesos, here is a DIY of engine hood cover.
Enjoy.

Purpose:
- Improve sound proofing
- Protect hood paint from extreme heat of the engine
- Looks neat.
- (....any inputs from the forum)

Material:
0.5 Meter of Home insulation with 10mm thickness (got this from ace 1M for 99.9 pesos)

Tools:
Cutter
Scissors
Old news paper (for molding)
Spoon (this is no mirienda use )
Marker

The Making

1. Make the mold from old news paper using scissors and marker
2. From the mold, cut the insulation material using the cutter
3. Then installed it using the kitchen spoon (which i found easier)




After the Tagaytay Fun run, can't stop thinking of doing it so here i am...

Yes sir tama ka. Kinuha ko ung doulbe sided na aluminium. My next project would be installing the insulation over the avanza hood (dun sa loob naman para maimprove yung soundproof at magaan ng trabaho ng aircon, yun ngalang tinitingan ko pa papano buksan yung kisame natin . Posible kaya yun..?)

Thanks bro, it's a standard hood pad I purchased online for my car. There were two easily available options (the third being a dealer part, which means it'll be expen$ive). The first had a heat shield (like what you have but only at a certain part of the pad), and the other without it. I opted not to get the one with heat shield because that's for a different variant, and from my experience panget ang material nung pad with heat shield. The one I got is nearly an inch thick high quality foam pad.

I would just go with the remaining material to cover up the space between the X frames and the hood panel itself in your Avanza. Since hindi naman siya makikita, it's good to have it but not necessarily see it. Alternatively you can opt to cover the X frames, just fold it up into the same inserts you did for the flat portions.

Maybe this next idea would make your car quieter too: insulate the firewall

That may take more skill and time but if properly done you'll notice a good reduction in cabin noise levels. Don't forget the transmission hump as well as the prop shaft tunnel. For the firewall it's best to do it from the engine bay, unless you want to tear up the dashboard. For the transmission and driveshaft tunnel it should be easily done from inside the cabin.

I was just looking at the pics you attached above, I hope you copied down the information on the decal that was covered with the new pad. Those ones usually list maintenance information about your car.

The Avanza G has both the heat shield for the hood and for the firewall. The J has none of these

I am assuming that both variants use the same hood, so an aftermarket upgrade is an option for the J. The hood heat shield of the G uses clips to hold it in place. The J has these tabs with holes on the X frames

Actually, ako, gusto ko sana na mayroon insulator sa kisame, para di mahirapan ang aircon.

Here's my suggestion to cover the X frames: Since in the DIY pics, the insulation material was just inserted into the tabs/brackets/frames that hold them to the hood, why not just get the remaining material and wrap them around the X frames instead? You can get creative by cutting up the remaining material in a unique way so that you can install them in one piece (looks much, much better).



And if you're not satisfied with the "industrial look" and would rather go for a more subtle appearance just make sure whatever material you use to cover them is flame and high heat resistant.

sa banawe naghanap din ako wala ako makita.....meron sila dun yung parang pang cover sa mga speakers/subs pero anti-heat/fire i-cut nila tapos idikit sa hood mo 700 ata ang price......baka makakuha tayo niyan na orig sa labas surplus na lang.........DIY na lang nga talaga matipid pa.....yung clip nakabili ako sa may binan laguna 30 pesos ata isa
