*RustyXIII: well the turtle wax polishing compound is really strong, its actually like some brands rubbing compound already. TW's rubbing compound is literally like sand paste. Well for one you shouldn't use polishing compound on that area since its not really painted with a polishable paint. It comes off because it does not have clear coat, most of the times its just painted black and beneath its just plastic or metal, either way polishing is not the proper way to maintain it, true at first polishing it might actually give you results, but after some time you would end up with a whiter and duller surface to work with not to mention the color or paint is getting worn off. For these things you need to use an All purpose cleaner to remove what ever is in there and clean it and then use Meguiars Trim Detailer or Mothers Back to Black or some other trim detailer to make it look blacker and remove the white stains. These trims can also be dyed black again by some specialty shops, i forgot where i had mine done, and to some people once these parts get white or dull, they just re-paint it again with a flat black spray paint, but polishing will really remove the paint in it, if you want to protect that part use dressings and non silicone based protectants. Some people also use polish just to spot treat that area especially if its left with a nasty stain by bird dropping or water mark, but you have to take not that while polishing can remove these stains it can also easily remove the outer layer of paint, and is some cases the laminated plastic, so you need to follow it up with a protectant or dressing or trim detailier
