Yes, wax need only apply thinly. No matter the brand. Remember that paint can only hold a fixed amount of product. Any excess will just be wiped off. If you put too much wax, mahirapan ka lang magtanggal plus sayang dahil itatapon mo lang.

I don't layer my Meg's Ultimate Paste Wax. I just make sure that all areas are covered. If gusto mo two layers, wala naman problema. You just need to weigh the pros and cons.

Some products are encouraged to be layered by the manufacturer, example Klasse High Gloss Sealant.
