after replacing the thermostat, check to see if the water jumps out when you start the car and the rad is full. if it does, then it's time to open up the head.
    Sir migs and fellow Tsikoteers,

Ano nga ba ang logic behind this?

Isn't the oil supposed to be golden brown instead of dark? Check its consistency, baka malapot. How is the smell?

Black kasi gabi ko tinignan . Yep, malapot siya. Hindi naman burnt smell. Pero baka palitan ko na din after maresolve what's causing the overheating.

I don't know if the Vitara has an overflow hose for the coolant, check if that is somewhat "wet" or if any trace can be seen. If the coolant went out that way, you probably just have a bad thermostat (I hope!)

The overflow hose is just a few inches long (exiting the reservoir). Then it dumps it to the ground. I'm still hoping it's just a bad thermostat.

A coughing sound usually originates from the expansion tank when a gasket is blown. When you open the radiator cap its more obvious. Gases from the cylinder during compression passes through the head gasket finding its way around the water jacket towards the radiator. When you smell the air coming out of the radiator its like exhaust from the tailpipe.

Also check kung meron oil sa rad and reservoir that's also a sign na headgasket failer.White smoke could also be a valve seals(and it should be check if the engine is warm and not early morning).

Wala pong oil sa radiator and wala ding white smoke at operating temp. Antay ko pa ang update regarding the thermostat.

the head gasket seals the combustion chamber from the surrounding water passage which cool the cylinder sleeves. when there is a warp in the gasket, the excess combustion goes out into the water passage and will force the water out once the rad cap is opened.

While the engine is dry, you could do a compression test, but I don't know if that'll help much, as sometimes the warping is only obvious at higher loads or when the engine is hot.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
