    i would like to get your expert opinion on this.

    i am driving an automatic nissan serena van conversion from subic. i was driving home via nlex when suddenly after getting my toll receipt nung pag-arangkada ko biglang nag-stop yung makina then it would not start na. so dinala namin sa mekaniko at nakita nyang naputol ang timing belt. nakita ring nasira ang water pump. so nung nakabili na ko ng replacements, akala ko okay na. hindi pa pala. may nakita ulit na sira na mga turnilyo, di ko alam kung saan yun but i think sa may cylinder daw at kinailangan pang dalhin sa machine shop. so sinunod lang namin yung mga sinabi at pinabili na sa mekaniko yung kelangan palitan. it took him 11 days to finish 'repairing' the van. actually advice me rin kung tama yung mga pinagsasabi at pinag-gagawa nya pls. so i tried driving it at napansin kong mabilis maubos yung tubig sa radiator. thus, nag-o-overheat ang makina. ang gusto ko pong malaman ay kung saan kaya ang posibleng problema ng sasakyan ko -- sa radiator ba or sa water pump? sana matulungan nyo po ako dito. TIA!

    Hard to tell... once nag-overheat ang van, andaming madadamay. It's possible na hindi tama yung paglagay ng water pump, at nag-le-leak siya.

    If you have no faith in the mechanic, why don't you bring it somewhere else and get a second opinion?

    Oops... just noticed... surplus conversion yung van mo... if your van is secondhand, there are a lot of things to look out for... it's possible it's just the van itself, but it's possible nga that you're not getting good service. Shop around... you don't have to keep going back to the same mechanic.

    If you're asking if what the mechanic PREVIOUSLY did was right, then you DON'T trust that mechanic. The point is moot though kasi nagawa na nga. Mabuti ngang humingi ka ng referral sa isang good mechanic, then get a second opinion para ma verify mo kung mapapagkatiwalaan talaga.

    As to the current problem of coolant loss, it can be anything from a busted or improperly connected water pump, to damaged hoses/reservoir/radiator, and even to a radiator cap that doesn't seal well anymore.

    Tip ko lang if you have need to EMPTY the cooling system to do a repair, get rid of the water and use real coolant mix -- you'll lower engine tyemp and increase performance/fuel consumption AND you'll minimize coolant problems aggravated or caused by rust.

    thanks po sa mga advice. here's an update ...
    i had my radiator cleaned though i don't know how extensive it was. after it was cleaned, we tried to start the engine pero ganun pa rin -- mabilis pa rin maubos yung water sa radiator. pinatingnan namin sya sa ibang mekaniko at ang sabi ay may singaw sa may cylinder. so hinigpitan nila yung mga turnilyo pero ganun pa rin -- tumataas pa rin yung temperature. sabi nila malamang kelangan daw buksan ulit yung cylinder at tingnan kung meron di lapat sa pagkakadikit.

    balak ng dad ko na ipalinis ulit yung radiator sa iba pero ang worry ko is kung pwede pa bang ipa-overhaul yung radiator kung aluminum sya?

    bago kami pumasok sa panibagong gastusin .... please advice me...

    Brod, Mayroon din akong nissan serena from subic as of now ok naman matipid sa diesel lalo na pag biodiesel ang gamit atleast mga 13-15 kilometers/liter.Yong problema mo sa oeverheating usually ang dapat check thermostat,radiator,radiator hose,radiator fan,water pump.Hindi pa ba nag halo ang langis sa radiator water mo?Na check ba ng mechanic mo kong ok pa ang thermostat,umaandar ba ang radiator fans mo pag nasa malapit na half sa guage ang needle ng temperature mo,tama ba ang timing noong nag palit ng timing belt,wala bang sigaw tagas ang mga water hoses mo etc?May nagsabi sakin noong pumunta ako sa isang shop sa Angeles City noong nakita ang serena ko sabi niya may ginawa silang serena din nag overheat nagpalit sila ng cylinder head pero nag overheat parin tapos napansin nila di gaanong malakas ang ikot ng radiator fan yon nakita nila mababa ang rating ng alternator kaya nagpalit sila mas mataas na amperes na alternator sabi niya sakin ok na van.Tanong pala ako saan mo nabili & magkano ang timing belt & water pump balak ko rin papalit ang timing belt.Sana makatulong ang advice ko sayo.

    may sequence pag higpit ng cylinder head ha, di lang yung higpit ng higpit lang...

    your AT, is it sliding? AT fluid still runs and cooled by the radiator water too..

    fan-- try stopping the clutch fan with a thick slipper, pag huminto kulang na ang silicone oil..NEVER fix the fan--thats bad!

    radiator-- have the top and bottom removed to make it generally clean.

    naputulan ka tbelt, try mo pacheck kung "warped" na cylinder head mo..pahigpit ka ng pahigpit, baka may bengkong na yung head..di laalpat talaga yung head gasket..

    tama si sir alwayz_yummy baka bengkong na cylinder head mo. Overhead cam ba engine mo, eto kasi delicado sa engine design na to pag naputulan ng timing belt pati cylinder head ay may tama in contrast sa push-rod type ng mga L300.

    Sa akin nga hairline scratch lang sa head ay di na pinayagan ng mekaniko ko, pag nagka compression leak daw dito ay tuloy tuloy na hangang bulwak na lang coolant sa radiator.

    Pag kelangan palitan yung cylinder head gasket mo at hindi 100% sure yung head flatness gamit ka na lang ng composite head gasket instead ng metallic type lagyan na rin ng copper spray para ma-enhance yung sealing.

    ang CD20T overhead cam yan...as i know recalled aluminum head yun...

    At pag benkong na head kelangan pare-surface yan but check carefully baka kelangan mo ng buong head assembly kasi nga overhead cam ang design at nalagutan ka ng timing belt otherwise baka walang katapusang balikan sa repair shop van mo. Mas lalo ka lang gagastos.

    Kaya nga it is a must to change your timing belt pag di brand new bili mo sasakyan lalo na pag diesel and if gasoline just be sure na 'non-interference' yung design ng engine. Di naman mahal papalit ng timing belt.

    looks like he made it worse. try having it double checked somewhere else imo.
