Back in the day when cars weren't that complicated, a lot of folks did that kasi hot naman ang climate sa Pilipinas.
People weren't too concerned about proper warm ups, basta di lang nag-ooverheat, ok na. Of course, this was decades ago, we know better now and cars have changed. Carryover lang yang suggestion nung aircon guy to the present day, pero obsolote na yung alam niya.

Ngayon radiators are super thin (more efficient design perhaps) and made of plastic ata (lighter and cheaper). No more radiator overhauls. Replace the whole thing lang.

my previous corolla (2nd hand) evaporator was replaced nalaman ko nalang nung hinde na lumalamig tapos yun evaporator maliit lang sa lagayan, sabi nung nag bukas ng aircon napalitan na daw (converted). buti nakuha sa linis yun hinde lumamig after a few year binenta ko na yun car. nakakatakot kasi baka dahil hinde oem yun evaporator masunog compressor.

bakit ba kasi ang daming aircon shop sa aten lalo na yun tabi tabi lang na ang hilig i-magic ang evaporator and other parts... cost maybe a big factor.
What I learned from Ceejays when they repaired the ac of the old car

    1. The 134a gas is more effective in laminated type condenser and evaporator

    2. This means kung papalitan mo condenser mo ng laminated type, damay dapat mo na evaporator.

    3. Make sure that fan in front can blow enough air in between the fins of the condenser and radiator. If medyo alanganin, you can customise to add additional fans or replace fan motor with a faster one. Or else I demo nila palagi na laging binabasa condenser para lang lumamig Laminated Evaporator and Condenser are they for real?Laminated Evaporator and Condenser are they for real?

ah kaya pala ganun yun sinasabi nila during old days. pag summer daw at tirik ang araw basain lang yun condenser para lumamig and the exhaust fan really play a big role, naka ilan aircon shop ako hinde nila masolve yun issue na pag traffic and mainit mahina lamig ng aircon pero pag rekta takbo ok naman until i go to this one ac shop and told me change my exhaust fan, he compare my exhaust fan and the surplus fan, ang lakas nun surplus, after replacing it swabe na lamig kahit traffic pa.

i also have the same scenario when my radiator top had cracks, palitan daw ng evercool kesa palitan yun top kasi plastic din daw yun at masisira in time. tsaka tanso daw yun hinde sasabog yun radiator pag nag overheat, but mas costly masabugan ng makina kesa radiator. and besides that car is almost 10 years old na and hinde ko alam anong maintenance ginawa ng may ari before baka hinde lang naalagaan at nawasa water lang nilalagay. so i decided to just overhaul/clean the radiator and palitan yun top plastic, it was running fine until i sold it.

there is only one reason why there are plastic-tubbed radiators.
    "they're cheaper to manufacture."

Weight is a primary factor ...
