This is removed from the system, cleaned and pressurized tapos lublob sa tubig to see if it has leaks.
Oldschool.

cocoy,
this practice is only done in the philippines for shops who do not want to spend on electronic leak detector or at the very least halide leak detector for R12 systems. this practice is totally idiotic. sometimes the leak is in the O-rings that connect the condenser or other aircon component for that matter. now, if the leak was from that O-ring, it will not show on the bubble bath you just mentioned. you might as well get a spray bottle filled with soapy water and spray on the suspected area. leaks forms bubbles if there is still residual pressure in the system

TO DO A LEAK TEST ,PERFORMANCE TEST MUNA .
CHECK THE PRESSURE , RECOVER AND EVACUATE THE SYSTEM AND CHARGE
1/1O KG OF REFRIGERANT AND IF NOT ENOUGH PRESSURE,ADD NITROGEN GAS AT 150PSI (NOT SHOP AIR THAT'S NOT A PROPER PRACTICE)
NOW WERE READY FOR ELECTRONIC LEAK TESTING .
OF COURSE THE TECH WILL KNOW IF THE SYSTEM IS EMPTY OR NOT.
WERE NOT GOING TO USE A KILO OR TWO OF REFRIGERANT JUST TO DO A LEAK TEST HERE.ITS COMMON SENSE

Another way is to the traditional mekaniko visual inspection. I noticed that they check if there is an area saturated with dirt because of the oil. If there is such they test it with soap.
I hope meron na mga ganyan mga digital methods kasi sometimes trial and error back job lagi sayang ang freon at napupunta lang sa hangin.

cobalt blue,
some areas visible are checked this way, some areas not clearly visible can be checked with soapy water but the evaporator area is concealed and can not be checked visually for evidence of oil leak nor with soapy water. but the electronic leak detector makes leaks easily found.

it might help to upgrade the obsolete way of fixing AC SYSTEMS in our country.
Choice I would have made as well.
