Viking Cars Launches All-New Volvo XC70 AWD Freedom Destination Drive
April 23, 2008 by Tsikot

Volvo’s All-New Volvo AWD will literally go places as Viking Cars, Incorporated (VCI), authorized dealer and distributor of Volvo cars in the Philippines, launched the All-New Volvo XC70 AWD Freedom Destination Drive. Primarily designed for members of the motoring media, the campaign was introduced last April 15, 2008 at the Volvo Makati showroom. Representatives from the motoring beat were invited to an exclusive preview of the reincarnated Volvo XC70 and the launch of the 7 Destinations campaign.
Stemming from the XC70s rugged capability, the Freedom Destination Drive aims to bring media ambassadors to seven distinct destinations this summer and give them a feel of the many changes Volvo made to the All-New XC70 AWD. This summer adventure will not only test the journalist’s skill in driving but in photography as well. Each Freedom test drive participant shall be given a manual camera to take snapshots with of what they think best captures the campaign theme “Life is Better Lived Together”.
Echoing Volvo’s tag line Volvo.for life, “Life is Better Lived Together” defines Volvo’s unique approach to building cars. Volvo has always been a “We” brand – designing cars with a focus on safety, care for the environment, and an overall humancentric approach to creating cars that enhances lives. The All-New XC70 Freedom Drive is the perfect opportunity to experiencing and sharing this higher quality of life.
A crossover vehicle that is best shared with friends or family, the All-New XC70 AWD can now even better enjoyed with two engine variants. Premium upgrades include a new ultra-compact six-cylinder in-line petrol engine that whips out a powerful 238 bhp and 320 Nm of torque plus a fuel-efficient all-aluminum five-cylinder 2.4L turbodiesel with state of the art common-rail fuel injection that provide remarkable acceleration and flexibility with an impressive torque of 400Nm. Says Jack Zaal, Regional Business Manager of Volvo Car Asia Pacific, “With this range of impressive engines and an array of technological and engineering innovations, each Volvo driver can look forward to a truly unforgettable ride.”
The new XC70 keeps its ruggedness but gets a little more refined with its new grille and businesslike front end. Off-road fans will also surely appreciate its increased approach and departure angles that make the XC70 climb and descend steeper slopes without worrying about fouling the car’s bodywork on rough terrain. The actual process of going downhill is made simple with Volvo’s Hill Descent Control (HDC) which comes as standard; simply flick the switch and let the XC70 get you down the steepest of inclines with perfect control.
“The XC70 was a huge success when it was first launched and we are confident that the All-New Volvo XC70 AWD will continue to be a hit among people who appreciate the value of having a lot of car for their investment. It’s the ultimate crossover vehicle; something that can drive them to business functions then a car they can drive to discover unwritten roads. An adventure is always waiting with the new XC70”, says Atty. Albert Arcilla, President and CEO of VCI.
Be it rough roads or city asphalt, the All-New Volvo XC70 AWD will take you farther and keep you safer.
