Toyota Cars Sold in the Philippines not Included in Recall
February 4, 2010 by Tsikot
Toyota cars sold locally are not affected by the accelerator-pedal recall implemented in the United States, a top official of Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) said.
In an interview, TMP vice chairman Alfred Ty said the cars sold here are not affected by the recall because the Toyota Camry and Corolla Altis sold by TMP in the Philippines are manufactured in Thailand while RAV4 models are imported from Japan.
“The recall is a preventive measure that shows the consciousness of Toyota management. This is the reason for the recall,” Ty explained.
Ty said they have received some inquiries from their dealerships about the recall that is why they decided to issue a public notice assuring the public that Toyota vehicles sold here are safe.
Ty said the recall has had no effect on the local market. In fact he said that for this year they are looking at increasing their market share.
Last Jan. 21, Toyota Motor Sales USA initiated a safety campaign on sticking gas pedals of specific US market models, including certain 2009-2010 RAV4, certain 2009-2010 Corolla, certain 2007-2010 Camry, 2009 – 2010 Matrix, 2005 – 2010 Avalon, certain 2010 Highlander, 2007 – 2010Tundra, and 2008 – 2010 Sequoia.
In rare instances, Toyota said there is a possibility that certain accelerator pedals may mechanically stick in a partially depressed position or return slowly to the idle position. The condition does not occur suddenly and results from wear.
In spite of this, Toyota said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the issue. It is working quickly to remedy the situation.
Earlier, TMP said they will grow faster than the local industry as they predicted an eight percent growth for this year.
“We want to renew our sales record this year and sell 50,000 units. I see positive signs in terms of automotive,” newly appointed TMP President Michinobu Sugata said.
Sugata pointed out that the Philippines was not hurt by the financial crisis. “There is no concern of risks,” he said.

how about the lexus cars..im not sure if they are included in the recall but wasn't one of the first incidents of unwanted acceleration a lexus? i think its the car of the off duty cop..
so is lexus in the philippines safe?
toyota casa in makati bel-air philippines has a very poor customer service. everytime i had my regular check-up, problem always came up. Engineers need more training on how to reply to customers in terms of standards and details. One engineer would recommend this and the other would recommend that...when asked about standard parameters, they cannot explain well...ask them about checklist, they cannot provide...very dissapointing...
with this simple customer care service, how would you expect toyota philippines qualify and care enough to do recalls?
how about yaris included ba? when i was buying this car last year isang selling point nila na manufactured and assembled ito abroad...
guys, do not give too high regards for toyota cars sold in the philippines. for all you know compared to other areas wherein toyotas are sold,we are just a drop in a bucket that is the reason why they did not do any recall in the philippines. There are issues also in the philippines why not? but they dont give a damn to the clients here because we are insignificant as compared to other markets!. The bottom line is that american market they should protect because it is their bread and butter plain and simple.!!!
Nereset daw software, etc. Pero meron pa rin.
D4D has some problems. I would stay away from toyota for now.
i had an toyota innova 2008,ask if its not included for recall...
