Keeping up with the Joneses is a tough game to play, and Nissan’s third-generation Quest was getting jealous of the new Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey. Los Angeles can change you, and that’s why we are staring at the all-new fourth generation 2011 Nissan Quest.

Arriving in dealerships in the beginning of next year, the 2011 Nissan Quest will be offered in four trims: S, SV, SL and LE. All four are powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 253 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, and it’s paired with Nissan’s Xtronic CVT unit. Each trim is also fairly well-equipped, with even the base Quest S receiving push-button ignition and a six-disc CD audio system. The top-level Quest LE goes all out with such features as a DVD entertainment system with wireless headphones, a blind-spot warning system and HID headlights.

Besides the tech amenities, the Quest also offers a plethora of what-you-would-expect minivan features. The 2nd and 3rd rows of seating both fold flat to the floor, and a deep rear storage well adds even more cargo space if you are traveling with items other than passengers. We’ve read many reports lately having to do with Toyota‘s FT-86 rear-wheel drive sports coupe, but we mustn’t forget that Subaru will be getting its own version of this new two-door – it is a joint venture, after all. Our spies have captured this obviously Subaru-bodied mule out testing in Death Valley, showing that things are still on track for the “Toyobaru” to come to market in the near future.

Details are still very slim on what Subaru’s version of the FT-86 will offer, and contrary to the brand’s image, the new coupe may not be available with all-wheel drive. If that’s the case, Subaru will have to offer a lot more in the way of styling (and perhaps power) to differentiate it from its Toyota sister. This latest prototype has sprouted a hood scoop not seen on earlier test cars, suggesting that a top-mount intercooler could be underhood, though it’s also possible that this is just the result of some WRX/STI parts being used for camouflage purposes.

Toyota is expected to launch its version of the FT-86 in November of 2011, so keep your fingers crossed for Subaru’s version to drop around the same time. For now, see a glimpse of what’s to come in our high-res gallery of spy shots below.

Thanks to designer Peter Schreyer, Kia has been cranking out some really impressive-looking vehicles recently. In fact, the Soul hatchback was a contender for the World Design of the Year award. And while we’ve seen hot new designs for both the Sorento and Sportage, the most significant addition to the Kia portfolio is the revamped 2011 Optima sedan.

The Optima shares its platform and powertrains with the recently introduced 2011 Sonata, but the design is wholly unique. It features a bold new front fascia, swoopy side lines and a sleek rear end, and with its impressive fuel economy and choice of naturally aspirated or turbocharged power, the Ford Fusion, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry indeed have some stiff competition coming in the near future. Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI), ready for the expected influx of motorists this Holy Week by providing on-site travel aid, service and support in different travel destinations through the Honda Emergency Assistance Team (H.E.A.T.) program.

H.E.A.T. is an annual motorist assistance program that is composed of an emergency action team who provides road assistance to motorists encountering problems on their long distance travel in observance of the Holy Week.

“H.E.A.T. is intended for all customers, not just for Honda owners but for other car brands as well,” Mr. Danny Pedro, HCPI’s Senior Assistant Vice President for Parts and Services said. He added, “We, at Honda, want to be your partner for a worry-free and safe trip with H.E.A.T.” 

On April 8,9 & 11, private and public vehicle owners, Honda and non-Honda customers can receive exclusive services that H.E.A.T. offers.

H.E.A.T. provides regular services and items such as preventive maintenance checks, general repairs, retail and sales, and travel advisories. On top of these, Honda also provides special services such as free 18-pt check-up, free Diagnostic System check-up, as much as 30% discount on Honda lubricants and sale of exclusive Honda products and merchandise.

There are thirteen (13) HEAT sites for the motorists in Luzon.  Location includes Albay, Laguna, Cavite (Bacoor and Dasmarinas) and Batangas for the Southern part and Ilocos Norte, Nueva Vizcaya, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Bulacan, Zambales and Baguio for the Northern region.   There would also be roving teams assigned to route around North Luzon and South Luzon. These groups check out the road conditions, vehicles and motorists and coordinate with the nearest HEAT sites for road updates and emergencies. Roving teams can be contacted through the following numbers: 0917-524-9084(North) and 0917-862-3986 (South).  HEAT is also made possible in cooperation with Kenwood, Denso, SAVI and Take 5 of Gaddi Oil.

For a safe long distance travel this Lenten Season, it pays to take time in preparing the vehicle.  Here are a few helpful reminders:

1.  Under the hood: Check the coolant water in the expansion tank, the dipstick, as well as the brake and clutch fluids.  Make sure that they are at the proper level.

2.  Outside:  Check air pressure of all tires, including spare tire.  Follow the manual’s suggestions for proper air pressure settings.  Also check if all lights and horn are in order.

3.  Arrange the luggage, if any, in an orderly fashion.  Those that are moveable while the car is in motion should be secured firmly in place.

4.  For a more confident drive, it is recommended that you take the car to your trusted service center and ask for a thorough long distance check-up.
