Asian Carmakers Corp. (ACC), BWM exclusive distributor in the Philippines, sponsored a 10-day BMW Xpo called “Joyfest” from November 18 to 27, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at BMW dealerships nationwide. The event was a celebration of BMW’s market leadership, both in the month of October, and in sales to date.

The sales event featured exclusive financing rates for brand-new and pre-owned BMWs. Glen P. Dasig, executive director, sales & marketing, of Asian Carmakers Cor., said “BMW buyers can expect a variety of models on-hand that they can avail through a 0% interest for 60 months payment scheme. Suffice to say, this is the best time to buy with the best offer available.”

The brand is also marking its tie-up with the new movie Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, starring Tom Cruise and directed by Brad Bird. Customers who purchased during the Joyfest got the chance to see the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics Concept Car at the December 13 world premiere of the movie in Singapore.

Ten winners with their companions will fly to Singapore for a three-day trip inclusive of hotel accommodations and airfare.

The BMW Vision EfficientDynamics Concept Car, seen in the movie’s trailer, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, and has a fuel efficiency of 26 km/liter. In BMW-speak, it contains the power of an M model with the fuel-sipping habits of a compact car. The drivetrain is a plug-in hybrid, pairing a three-cylinder common-rail turbo diesel and an electric motor on each axle.

The finest array of restored vintage and contemporary cars came out in full force at the Transport Show 2009 which opened last April 22 to 26, 2009 at the Megatrade Hall of SM Megamall, Building B, Mandaluyong City.

Organized by TradeShow International, Inc. (TSI), Trans Sport Show has drawn the support and participation of Filipino car aficionados and craftsmen who display a keen passion for automobiles.

“Trans Sport Show has always maintained a good number of vintage cars to show every year, combined with the contemporary custom cars,” TSI President Sophie delos Santos said. Indeed, since its inception in 1992 as a general automotive show, Trans Sport Show has evolved into one of the most popular automotive events that car-savvy individuals swarm to. It is the longest running motoring event in the country that car enthusiasts of all ages could easily identify with.

Lance Feliciano, the only Filipino to be issued a competition license by the United States’ Formula D Series—a championship for professional drift drivers, drew a huge crowd during the 14th Philippine Hot Air Balloon Fiesta in Clark Airfield, Pampanga recently.

Feliciano, who was flagged-off by veteran touring car champion Kookie Ramirez and Riz Dalangin of BF Goodrich, performed a spectacular drifting exhibition on the runway of the Air Force City, where he executed Scandinavian drifts, snappy transitions and tire burns to the delight of the amused crowd. He elicited gasps and squeals when he ran tight “doughnuts” (consecutive 360-degree turns) around selected members of the audience, including Kim Atienza, the host of Umagang Kay Ganda of ABS-CBN.

According to Feliciano, “Drifting involves precision and you need to have a well-tuned, perfectly conditioned, rear-wheel drive car with a good suspension and tires that can stand the strain of drifting.”  He added, “You can go through a full set of tires in less than a day of competition, which is why it is important to have excellent rubber mounted on your wheels like BF Goodrich.”

The 22-year-old Feliciano, who is supported by BF Goodrich, Whiz Oil, Spyder, Starbright Body Kits, Rapidé, Drift Mags, K92 Paint, Standox, Zee Car Suspension, LF Performance and tsikot.com, is the only Filipino competing in the U.S. Formula D series.  He joined an elite circle of only 38 professional Formula D drivers when he won the requisite eight qualifying events in 2006 at the age of 19.  Feliciano edged out 55 other drivers at the Irwindale Speedway and took home the championship plus a slot in the Nationals in Laughlin, Las Vegas.  Feliciano continued to compete in 2007 and 2008, landing on the podium several times.
