Rumormill: Land Rover planning sub-Evoque Mini rival

According to a report from Auto Express, the Range Rover line is set to expand yet again, and its dimensions will continue to shrink in order to take on small premium hatches and crossovers like the Volkswagen Golf, BMW X1 and Nissan Juke. Supposedly, there is a new two-door Range in the works that will cost less than £25,000 and be smaller and less expensive than the Evoque. Stressing car-like feel and handling, the coupe crossover would keep the Evoque‘s styling cues, but be lower to the ground and have shorter overhangs as well as greater rake to the roofline.
The basic version would be front-wheel drive, with four-wheel drive being optional, and that FWD version is suggested to have a four-cylinder diesel providing range-topping gas mileage. A gas-powered, 250-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbo would be the enthusiast option for the top end. According to Land Rover design head Gerry McGovern, we “haven’t seen the bookends” of the Range Rover line, meaning it could grow on both lower and upper ends.
