MMDA Warns Drivers Against Swerving on EDSA

October 17, 2008 by Tsikot

The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) cautioned motorists yesterday against swerving along EDSA, a violation that can cost them a maximum fine of P2,000.

Agency officials issued the warning after receiving information from the field about repeated incidents of irresponsible or reckless changing of lanes along EDSA.MMDA executive director Angelito Vergel de Dios said motorists who used to ignore the yellow and white solid line marking which prohibits them from swerving and crossing other lanes should start following the rules or face consequences.

“The rules will be strictly enforced soon,” he announced noting that both public and private vehicles should heed the warning.

Vergel De Dios said motorists should keep in mind that they can only swerve or cross lanes on broken line markings along EDSA.

He said the MMDA now means business in enforcing the no-swerving and no-crossing traffic regulation due to the spate of road accidents arising from this form of reckless driving.
