Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Unveils 2009 Montero Sport 4×4
Mitsubishi Motors Philippines unveils officially the 2009 Montero Sport 4×4 as an additional model to reinforce its current SUV line up. Mitsubishi’s strong heritage in sports utility vehicles (SUVs) plus the experience it learns from the grueling Dakar rallies are testimonies that the Montero Sport is one remarkable SUV.
The Montero Sport’s urban styling is a sharp departure from the boxy styling of conventional 4x4s. Its muscular presence and high-ground clearance projects an image of rugged durability, yet the sleek profile hints at its passenger-car like performance. Though large in dimensions, it still offers nimble handling and parking maneuverability. This Japan-built SUV has a strong front end and burly image, deriving its rightful heritage from the bigger Pajero. Multi-reflector halogen headlamps and fog lamps offer excellent illumination while the vertically slanting grill with chrome accent reinforces its sophisticated urban look.
The low floor height and cabin increases practicality, which delivers passenger-car like driving posture and access. And at the same time, this lower stance also promises stability. The crisp lines, bulging curves and low overall height create a unique functional design that looks striking whether parked in your garage, cruising the city, or carving the twisty back roads.
From the genuine leather seats to the intelligently laid-out switches and controls, the interior of the 2009 Montero Sport 4×4 exudes luxurious comfort from an SUV. Seats can be configured variably to accommodate most hauling requirements.
For hi-fi entertainment, the Montero Sport has Mitsubishi Motors Audio Design that can play MP3s, CDs, USB-ready plus a Bluetooth devise pairing for hands-free function complemented with six speakers.
The Montero Sport’s heart is the 4M413200 cc turbocharged 3.2L Common Rail Intercooled Turbocharged DI-D diesel engine, which has a maximum output of 163PS at 3,500 revolutions per minute (rpm) and torque of 343N-m at 2,000 rpm.
Aside from being durable and dependable, this engine has been noted to be quiet, responsive and economical. Its transmission boasts a powerful INVECS-II 4-Speed A/T with Sportronic Mode.
The smooth car-like ride of the Montero Sport can be credited to its front double wishbones sprung by torsion bars and the rear’s 3-link suspension on coil springs. Both ends of the Montero Sport are fitted with stabilizer bars to reduce body roll during cornering.
Anchoring this SUV to a quick stop are Vacuum Brake Booster at the front and 16″ Ventilated Dis. Braking action is always checked by its Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) which works in tandem with the Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) that regulates brake bias in the front and rear as load changes.
The Montero Sport’s body was designed and built to assure a high level of safety in the event of a collision. Passive safety items include the leading and trailing areas of the ladder frame chassis that are designed to crush progressively to absorb collision impact.
Front occupants reduce the risk of being injured in a collision thanks to its dual SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) Dual Stage airbags and 3-point ELR with Pretensioner, Force Limiter and Adjustable Anchor seatbelts. The second row is equipped with 3P ELR X2 Seatbelt and 2P Lapbelt while 3rd Row is armed with a 3P ELR x2 type.
The 2009 Montero Sport 4×4 comes in two variants: Montero Sport 3.2 DSL 4X4 GLS and Montero Sport 3.2 DSL 4X4 GLS SE.

this is so cool.. my dad already have this gls se type and it is so easy and comfortable to drive than other suv’s.. not yet mentioning its great features…
I am in the market for an SUV and originally thought of buying a Fortuner; but after checking out the features and specs of a display unit of a Montero Sport GLS SE, immediately reserved for one; it has the features that I was looking for but did not find in the Fortuner: such as the super select mode from 4wd to 2wd and vice versa on the fly and a sportronic transmission, and a fresher body design. The Fortuner’s body design despite the very recent face lift is already boring.
Although the Fortuner, being a Toyota product, is reputedly of very good quality, I am quite comfortable with the Pajero line, as I already own a 1999 Fieldmaster, manual and 4×4. It is still a fantastic vehicle even though its turning 9 years old this year.
I hope to get my GLS SE unit soon after reserving 3 weeks ago; I heard the reservation list has now become very long already.
I’m planning to sell my 2006 4×2 Fortuner to buy a new Montero 4×4. What i’m concerned about is the fuel consumption of the Montero because it has a bigger 3.2 engine. Any idea of the actual fuel consumption of the Montero?
Ed, no worries with the fuel consumption because it was jointly tested with Mitsubishi and the Department of Energy. The ratio is 1:15 (liter:kilometers).
I am sure this sure the 2009 Montero Sport is a great SUV that will compete with Fortuner and Alterra. I know this is better than Fortuner. I never liked Fortuner coz people have liked it because it looks good and branded Toyota. I was not really liked because it performs well. No offense to Fortuner owners.
Finally there is something to additionally compete with the Fortuner other than the good Alterra.
Getting a good feedback from Strada, for sure Montero will have a very good feedback as well.
I am planning to buy one after I visited Mitsubishi showroom last Wednesday. Unfortunately I don’t have the budget. Too bad!!!
Go 2009 Montero Sport!!!!
I think is one of the best buys! sorry for those who rushed to buy fortuner, alterra and similar stuff…
may kulang lang…i think they should have added immobilizer. with rampant car knapping/jacking, i think its a necessity. overall its a great great buy.
chery na lang dahil mura
I BOUGHT LAST MONTH THIS SO COOL TOY GLS SPORT AND NAPAKA GANDA NG SUSPENSION AT SO SPACEOUS TALAGA .
IMMOBILISER LNG NGA ANG KULANG FOR ANTI CARNAPING,PEROFORMANCE OK TALAGA…..
anyone to feed back mitsubishi motors to add immobilizer to the new montero sport, so that I can finally decide one !!! do this immobilizer fitted to the strada gls sport ???
i reserved one unit white montero 2009 sl however i have to wait for long. i asked the manager here in tagbilaran bohol and advised me that i have to wait for a month or so. i have informal arrangements with citimotors makati, they promised me that they can give me the white montero with the wheel upgrade if i will make a deposit for reservation. my concern is that what about the warranty. here in tagbilaran we have one mitsubshi motors showroom business center and after sales. is it wise to withdraw my reservation fee in tagbilaran and transfer it to citimotors makati then arrange with both managers here in tagb and citimotors for the aftersales, im talking about the 100km or 36km whichever comes first. what can you say about this.
I prefer 4×4 with manual transmission like my 2001 Grand Vitara which I use in my Nueva Ecija farm. Any possibility that such version will come out in the Philippines? I guess Montero could really beat Fortuner if MMC would come out with manual transmission version which is anyway available in all Strada variants.
I have reservations in 2 dealers as it seems like my previous SA is not responsive. Waiting for more than 1 month na, ndi raw naprocess kasi I wanted cash. So, I changed to financing with 80% downpayment.
The reservations are refundable naman, so whoever gives me the unit first wins.

I visited the showroom in Marikina Diamond Motors last mon. Oct. when I saw the Montero sports 2009 GLS. It looks attractive to me both interior and exterior. I was impressed witht he design but when I ask the Sales staff on the enigne displacement, it is 3.2L which is big cmpared to body. I was wandering on the Fuel Consumption it might eat a lot of fuel and besides this is automatic transmission. I read the note of Elmer that MMC & DDE perform FC test and he said it is 15km/L? Where can we find this test result? Can you show me so I can make a decision whether to go ahead on buying this unit?
Are the gas stations is selling EURO 3 or 4?
I hope that MMC will consider to have a manual transmission for Montero Sports 2009 for those Customers who prefers the conventional way of driving with a lower dispacement.
Dear Sir I have sent my auto design to mitsubishi competition before and I got a gift. Now I would like to send my new designs. please help me about this matter. Sincerely yours habib heidarinejad
its really a great car, very responsive and economical..not to mention its 4wd system.
i just have this Montero Sport GLS last Nov. to be lucky enough though coz no owner for the car on the showroom so i grab it, man, this car is fantastic its roomy, well not to mention its macho looking design and the last thing its engine was very responsive. so guys who loves SUV take this Montero sport you’ll never feel sorry………………………..
Well, Mitsubishi done very excellent for this model.
Happy Driving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hi Bebs,I think Euro 3 or 4 & now available 5, refers to the vehicles\and or engines for the standard of low emmission(CrO) pollution.
If i decide to pay in cash the Mitsubishi Montero Sport Dsl 4×4 gls SE dark grey or silver color but not currently available in the showroom, how long must I wait to own it?
What is the big difference between a 2009 Pajero and 2009 Montero. Is Montero tha new Pajero for 2009?
I read alot of good things in this montero sports, but there some items that I could’t find in the specs .like the fuel consumption ,0-100 acceleration ,and the top speed ,I also try to find out it in C’s magasine but no data availlable, even in the comparo in top gear the fuel consumption and acceleration are not mentioned.
I’m happy if you can include that on the specs.
mike
elmer, fuel consumption ratio is 1:15 km per liter? wow really great, maybe test drive downhill from baguio…he he he he..
Hi Mike,
I drive the new Montero sports. Re mileage, when I drove to Lipa City odometer registered 10.5 km /liter. City driving in traffic is 8.3 km/li.
Haven’t measured run to 100km/sec but I cn say that it is more powerful than my 99 Pajero field master.
Suspension is great, at least better than Fortuner’s.
Stereo system superb . Blue tooth hands free cell phone technology, I pod connectivity and most of all a ready cable for flash drive for your stored music.
Overall, a vehicle that’s a must buy. Value for money.
Dodi
. why worry about the fuel consumption. if you can afford to pay 1,600,000 pesos you should be able to pay for gas, just buy it and drive————-enjoy
Dear Sir I have not a ansewr from you yet
I am planning to by one of your good looking Montero Suv sport but i want to know about the engine drive , is this a belt drive , chain drive or gear drive , im happy to know about ur feed back soon
I’m actually just waiting for a my 4×2 montero sport this april. I honestly believe this has the greatest bang for the buck though I felt some qualms at first since mitsubishi has lost its gleam a couple of years ago due to some quality problems. But I hope that they have opened their eyes that it’s about time that they focus on quality to bring back the confidence of their customers, otherwise, they would really be finding themselves in an insurmountable pit.
I’v inspected one of the displays in the showroom and the only obtrusive difference between the 4×4 and 4×2 is the leather appointments and wood trims. The water repellent fabric seat doesn’t look cheap, albeit the leather upholstery looks more inviting – just to differentiate the more luxurious 4×4 model i suspect. Is it easy to replicate the leather seats in the 4×4, the color and the quality of leather materials in the aftermarket shops? I mean can anyone suggest of a shop that manufactures quality leather products comparable to original factory made? Would very much appreciate if you could refer one or two.
Tnx and more power
Guys, wait for the facelift! front appearance must be change, mukhang pickup pag nakaharap, not appealing.
face change, looks pick up truck, also for model 3.2 gls se provide 4×2 which i think in the philippines we don’t need much the 4×4 coz we don’t have icey road, snow, for this the engine will save a lot of fuel…………….i thought it will be better!!!!!!!!!!!
Mitsubishi Montero 4×4 or 4×2 are very great. They both can satisfy your needs when it comes to SUVs. If you want to avail tru financing scheme, email me at leizl_herrera@ymail.com. We can also schedule testdrive for you to experience the great riding comfort of Montero…..- leizl herrera
I am now a proud owner of the montero sport 4×2. Am very happy, satisfied and no regrets.
For those who had owned recently this machine would you be so kind to answer Samy’s question …….”am planning to by one of your good looking Montero Suv sport but i want to know about the engine drive , is this a belt drive , chain drive or gear drive ? im happy to know about ur feed back soon”
Uh, is it true that the AC of this 2009 Montero is not that cold. I hope you get what I mean.
After visiting several showrooms on SUV’s and making a test drive on KIA Mohave 4 days ago, considering the price I’ve now decided to own one of this superb machine Montero Sports, reservation fee for a black color was already paid, eager and so excited on the arrival of this Toys For Big Boys…hehehe
iv been waiting for 3 weeks now to have a white montero 4×2 from my dealer and i cant wait any longer. if theres anyone who could help me get a unit jas txt let me knopw. fyi with approved bank loan already.
I have made up my mind after shopping around. Definitely Mits. Montero will be the best buy for me. Is it practical to buy it from Manila and travel it by land to Davao? Is there really a substantial price difference since I will not be paying for the freight and handling as the dealers in Davao are collecting from the customers?
Would appreciate your response.
WOW. Bibili po ako nyan pagdating ko. Ang haba ng reservation. hehehe
Elmer, if you cant buy the montero sport in Manila, get it where I did. I talk to about 20 mitsubishi agencies in Mla, looking for a red montero sport 4×2, 2.5li diesel engine and the best guarantee i can get is that if I pay the reservation, they can supply me the red montero in a week but no promise. What a heck, supply in a week but no promises! Try the provincial agencies like La Union or others. I bought mine in 3 days via telephone thru the intersession of my bank manager. They can deliver the car to your address as well if you so desire. Like they did to a customer from the province of Abra. The agency is a mitsubishi authorized dealer. Motorplaza, Inc., Parammata Bldg, Sitio 5 Brgy Biday, San Fernando La Union. Contact Astrobel T. Espiritu – 09209725899 or 09232121198. Gud luck and hav a happy hunting.
Am a proud owner of the 2009 montero sport 4×2, 2.5 liter turbo intercooled diesel. Took me three weeks going around testing most of the suv in this P1.2-1.5m price range and and lately, found the montero 4×2 smooth ride, high ground clearance, 7 seater cap and variable luggage space arrangement, suited my needs pretty well. Moving from the eastern mountainous province of Abra through 10km of rough road, one river crossing and 440km of paved road to Manila and the same km back, twice a month have only confirm my choice is right. I drive at a steady 140-150km/hr at the sctex & nlex while 80 – 120 outside the expressway and 30-60 at the rough unpaved road and consumed 80 liters back & forth (11.25liters/km). So far, driving comfort, noise level, smooth shifting, firm dynamic ride at the speedway contributed greatly to a faster travel, more relax driving and less fatigue and stress on arrival. My early preference is the fortuner because Im captivated by its looks and strongly recommended by my compadre in toyota. I’ve driven the suv to & pro, halfway at the same route and condition, and i would still go for the 2009 montero. Last week, via the Abra-Kalinga road, 65km of unpaved rough & gutted road, under heavy rain, I put my new Montero Sport 4×2 into paces, and traversed the worst road I ever travelled, back and forth without a hitch. Sorry guys, but at this point in time, i firmly believe the montero sport is still the best choice for myself and will not hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for an suv at this price range. U wont regret it….
hi,pipol. i can help u get ur dream car.. im a sales agent in toyota.. u can look for me at this number. 02-3832021.thanks
just want to share my thoughts,. 5 months ago i bought a mitsubishi montero 4×2 dsl at first it was really exciting for me because i thought its one the best car i new.( i have nothing against mitsubishi montero) later i realized that medyo kalampagin. then suddenly my bestfriend bought a fortuner, i tried to drive it and test its performance kasi sabi nila matagtag dw ang fortuner . we both new that its the same as montero. mas gusto ko pa nga ang interior ng toyota ng parang luxury car sa loob. so if you guys want to buy either of the two, drive test nyo muna. best advice lalo na sa first car buyers para wala regrets…
We are planning to buy Fortuner but after looking on different brands, we are now undecided after seeing the Mitsubishi Montero and the Hyundai Santa Fe. both are great SUV’s. Help me decide
I agreed with Art Gayao in his experience, i bought montero gls se 4×4 last june ok ang fuel consumption at smooth i drive di ka bibitinin, If you plan to buy an suv go to montero 4×4 convertible pa puede mong i drive na nasa 4×2 ka.
I am very interested to buy the Montero 4×4 GLS SE AT. The problem is ,there is, no available unit and one has to make a reservation. What is funny is that the salewoman who attended to me says I have to get bank financing ,even if I said I ‘ll pay in cash and am willing to put a down payment of whatever amount she wants; that those who go for bank financing will be given priority than one who buys in cash. She further said that there is a long list of customers waiting for their units. Why is it that so? Well, the Santa Fe is another choice.
I’ll try other dealers, anyway…
TO FPJ in Davao!
Did u get ur unit na ba?I ordered one already but Davao Mits.told me that I have to wait for a month. My bank already approved my loan and somebody told me to go check Mits GEN SAN.
any help?
Hi looking for Montero SE a/t 4×4 white/silver (with approved bank loan ) please help… email at lenztan2002@yahoo.com
I did a test drive of montero sports and it was so cool and stabled. wow. Even do it was assembled in Thailand but gess what i just reserved one.
I bought my first Montero GLS SE Pyrenese Black back in November 2008 in cash through the help of a friend from Mitsubishi Taytay. In two weeks of ordering, my Montero was released and paid in cash. Did some upgrade as well, mounted 22″ chrome wheels/tires. Sad to say I had to sell it after using the vehicle for 3 mos as I had to go back overseas. I love this SUV! This was the best SUV I ever had, albeit 3.2, it was so tipid in fuel. I drove to Isabela, Baguio and vice versa. Malakas ang hatak, very responsive, very fuel effecient talaga and lots of space. When I go back to the Philippines for a long break, I will definitely buy another one. I will get the red one this time and again mount my used chrome wheels.
Hope they release a 2009 Montero 3.2 with a Manual Transmission.
Need to know the current selling price of Montero SUV 4 x 4. Could not locate from your publication. How about discount for outright cash purchase?
Could you send me the specs of the unit though my email add.
Thank you.
