Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Introduces New Montero Sport 2.5 GLS 4×2
With the successful introduction of the Montero Sport 4×4 models last year, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines is further strengthening its SUV line up with the introduction of the two-wheel drive version, the Montero Sport 2.5 liter GLS 4×2 automatic. With the introduction of this two-wheel drive variant, the Montero Sport model is now complete as Mitsubishi Motors Philippines aims to get a bigger market share at the competitive and substantial 4×2 SUV segment.
Not only does the Montero Sport 2.5 GLS 4×2 inherit the same basic platform and suspension its 4×4 brother has but it also exhibits class leading ride quality in a mid-sized SUV. This is because of the extensive research and development invested in making sure that the Montero Sport has superior riding comfort than the competition. This is made possible by its front double wishbones with coil springs, and a rear 3-link coil suspension with a long trailing arm design. Both ends of the Montero Sport are also fitted with stabilizer bars to reduce body roll during cornering.
The 4×2 version stands proud like the 4×4 with dimensions measuring 4,695 mm in length, 1,815 mm in width, 1,840 mm tall, and the wheelbase at 2,800 mm. These dimensions equates to a vast interior space that provides a sense of comfort, purpose and safety for the Montero Sport’s 3-row, 7-passenger seating configuration that can also be varied to accommodate the most complex cargo scenario. Talking about the interior, the Montero Sport 2.5 GLS 4×2 gets a black and light grey dashboard accented by silver trims. The inner door trims with bottle holders also get the same accents. Behind the thick-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel is the instrument cluster with easy to read gauges that illuminates to an amber hue during night time driving. There is also a dealer option steering wheel mounted audio remote that commands the Mitsubishi Motors Audio Design single in-dash CD/MP3/WMA player by JVC with 4-speakers. This audio system can accommodate hands free mobile phone operation thanks to its Bluetooth pairing function. MP3 devices can also be connected via the audio system’s USB, Auxiliary input ports (AUX-IN) or also by Bluetooth pairing. Other standard equipment are dual air-conditioning with a separate rear aircon control, power side mirrors with one-touch fold function, key cylinder illumination, 2 special keys with built in electronic immobilzer, keyless entry with alarm, and convenience sockets. Black water resistant fabric seats are also standard for this urban SUV.
Looking at the outside in detail, the all-new Montero Sport’s exterior is perfect for people looking for an SUV with a muscular stance and at the same time having a contemporary styling befitting an urbanized off-roader. Fender flares on the wheels arches plus bulging curves on the rear quarter panel widens its stance. A pair of highly specialized halogen projector headlamps provide superior visibility and additional lumination is contributed by the front foglamps mounted on the bumper. The large doors, in combination with the tubular design stepboards, are designed in a way to make getting in and out of the Montero Sport effortless. Load bearing roof rails are standard and add to that SUV appeal. At the rear, a tailgate with large glass area and Euro-inspired tail lamps adds to the unique Mitsubishi look.
The distinguishing factor of the 4×2 from its 4×4 brother is its engine. The Montero Sport 4×2 is equipped with a 2.5 liter DOHC 16-Valve Common Rail Direct Injection Diesel with quick-spool turbocharger and front-mounted intercooler. This 2.5 Liter engine which is found also on the Strada model has a maximum output of 136PS @ 3,500 rpm and 314 N-m of torque @ 2,000 rpm and can easily cruise more than 170 kph and at the same time being fuel efficient at 15.5 Kms./liter (at a constant speed 80 kilometer per hour). The two-wheel drive version is also equipped with an INVECS-II 4-speed Automatic transmission with Sportronic mode. INVECS-II is a proprietary transmission technology by Mitsubishi Motors that intelligently adapts to an individual’s driving style.
For handling and safety a power assisted rack and pinion steering system provides good road feel, better response, and a class leading turning radius of only 5.6 meters. Braking power is complemented by front 16” ventilated disc brakes and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) that works in tandem with the Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). 265/65 R17 tires mounted on stylish multi-spoke 17-inch aluminum wheels ensures excellent grip on and off the road. Like other new Mitsubishi models recently introduced in the market, the all-new Montero Sport benefits from the R.I.S.E. safety engineering. R.I.S.E. stands for Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution body and frame system which greatly enhances the survivability of its occupants. The RISE frame incorporates front and rear crumple zones with reinforced beams to absorb collision force and direct it away from the vehicle’s interior. Aside from the RISE body, the all-new Montero Sport has dual-stage front SRS Airbags and seat belt pre-tensioners that react instantaneously in the event of a frontal collision and these greatly reduces the chance of passengers being slumped into the steering wheel or dashboard. The second row is also equipped with two 3-point seatbelts plus a center 2-point lap belt while the third row passengers will have 3-point seatbelts as well.
The Montero Sport is available in eight colors: Garnet Green Mica*, Claysoil Beige*, Lorenz Blue Mica*, Gemstone Grey Mica, Cool Silver, Sedona Red, Savanna White, and Pyrenese Black and Mitsubishi Motors Philippines will back it up with a 3-year or 100,000 kilometer warranty.
The suggested introductory retail price of the all new Montero Sport 2.5 GLS 4×2 is P1,330,000, while the current 3.2 GLS SE 4×4 is now priced at P 1,680,000.

I saw and inspected the New 2009 Montero Sports 4×4 SUV in Greenhills. All SUV’s like Honda CRV, Hyundai Santa Fe, Toyota Fortuner is no match with its features and price. Even the second hand market of SUV’s will be affected because of the Price and Features of the New Montero Sports 4×2. Prices of the second hand SUV’s will definitely go down.
i own a 2009 mitsubishi montero sports 4×4 version. i suggest to the would be buyer of this 4×2 variant to buy the 4×4 instead and “ENJOY THE RIDE”!!!
i have 4×4 gls se and it’s beautiful inside and out….
i was torn in getting either a mitsubishi montero 4×4 or a subaru forester 2.0x. but the latter seem to be the perfect choice as it is cheaper. but now comes the montero 4×2, all the more im confused w/c one to pick since the prices are almost the same.
the pluses of the montero is its size compared to the subaru forester but the latter is really my choice in terms of aesthetic. mini mini mi-ni-mo…..w/c is the better of the two??…..
I’m actually just waiting for a my 4×2 montero sport this april. I honestly believe this has the greatest bang for the buck though I felt some qualms at first since mitsubishi has lost its gleam a couple of years ago due to some quality problems. But I hope that they have opened their eyes that it’s about time that they focus on quality to bring back the confidence of their customers, otherwise, they would really be finding themselves in an insurmountable pit.
I’v inspected one of the displays in the showroom and the only obtrusive difference between the 4×4 and 4×2 is the leather appointments and wood trims. The water repellent fabric seat doesn’t look cheap, albeit the leather upholstery looks more inviting – just to differentiate the more luxurious 4×4 model i suspect. Is it easy to replicate the leather seats in the 4×4, the color and the quality of leather materials in the aftermarket shops? I mean can anyone suggest of a shop that manufactures quality leather products comparable to original factory made? Would very much appreciate if you could refer one or two.
Tnx and more power.
the first time i saw montero sport GLS 4.2 i really feel in love with the color.i am just waiting for its delivery this april too and i hope my money is worth every penny with its features and usage.
my family is also considering between a fortuner and a montero 4×2 gls. but i learned that the engine of that montero 4d56 which is the engine of the jurassic L200 era. it was just added with turbo intercooler and CRDi (which they are not the first to do so). the only problem with fortuner is that, yes, it’s all over the place and they say it’s a hot-car, and that it’s suspension is a little weak. but i’d rather go for the newer engine than buy a jurassic one with just a new “kaha.” i want to believe toyota already made improvements about this. since it’s badge boasts number one, and mitsubishi is only regaining its top 3 rank just because they offered this montero at an introductory price. and i think it’s not euro-3 compliant yet. think about it, 1 million pesos is still 1 million pesos. value for money is key here.
My two cents worth, you have to admire the audacity of the people in mitsubishi for not changing the engine – 4d56 in their newer model now. Yes, that same engine propelled the old L200 but that only asserts how reliable that engine is. With modifications and improvements, the old reliable engine has gained substantial torque and horsepower – not even the underpower and problematic 2.5 d4d of the fortuner nor the 2.5 duratorq engine of the everest can match.
The classic 4d56 diesel engine is comparable to the classic gasoline counterpart engine of mitsubishi – the 4G63 – which I happen to have in my 1991 Galant GTi. This is a hell of an engine that even the newer technology engines nowadays can’t even rival.
Peace and happy easter.
4th automatic transmission ay suave and shifting.
i am considering montero but before deciding finally, can you please compare montero with the captiva? or is there a comparison? pls advise.
hello sir.
i hope this will help… all vehicles are good if they are brand new. but in choosing the right vehicle for you is a matter of need/purpose and not which is good according to consumer survey. not all survey reliable, one may like it and one may not, depending on the situation they got into with the same vehicle model. let us say trouble..first thing to ask yourself is,, do i need a 4×4 in going to office.? 4×4 is use for high alitude or mountain climbing & or rugged terrain in which you can maximize the features.. in 4×4 you pay extra for the parts installed to make it 4×4. both model offers a 4×4 and 4×2 config. which one you really need ? or you may consider also other models..this is what i mean of ” need/purpose ” of buying a new vehicle.. will it serve your purpose ? can you maintain it in its useful life? is the size right for me ? so forth and so on ..if you notice you see different models,, why ? because factory gives you choices on what you need ? want is another thing.. want to have a good car falls on luxury..so again pls ask yourself.. WANT or NEED ?…both are good and both company will push the product ..so only you can really decide which is right for you.. good luck to you !
again,, in my own choice.. i go for captiva,, i can be sure it is 100% OBD-2 compliant vehicle… obd-2 is now sweeping across the globe but not all here fully understand it.. you may see articles on web by typing OBD-2.. all will be revealed.. thanks
I got my Mitsubishi Montero sport 4X2 last March and it has been a pure driving pleasure for me since then.
I strongly recommend it to everybody, test drive one now at your local dealer and see for yourself.
our mitsubishi will come this may.been waiting for red color but unavailable.
White is the one which is available so as a nurse it would not make any difference at all, white can be my second color of choice.
i am just asking what is the different between montero 4×4 GLS SE to 4×2 GLS
in term of fuel consumption, actually i have already reservation for 4×4 variant, so that i can really decide which is right for me
correction difference not different
The 4D56 engine is jurassic. I had it in my old L200, and now in my L300 dropside pick up. This engine is reliable but in my old L200, since it is not CRDI or turbocharged, it is slow. But the block is sturdy. My 1996 L200 traveled more than 200000 kms before I sold it. But it never had a major ovehaul. The only problem is the timing belt that you have to change regularly, or else you get stuck up somewhere when it breaks.
Regarding the 4×2 montero, I dreamed of buying one. But I wish they wiill release a 4×2 version of the 3.2 liter engine for more power. If not, then the 4D56 will do becuase of its reliability. Besides, you can buy parts for 4D56 anywhere. But the 3.2 liter, I do not know.
I ACTUALLY OWN A MITSUBISHI 4X2 MONTERO SPORT , ITS 2.5 LITER 4D56 ENGINE IS VERY RELIABLE ON BOTH HIGHWAY & OFF ROAD DRIVING..
i have been looking at the montero wheels. i just want to know if the 4gear montero sport is ok to drive
Hi…I am considering to buy a 4×2 Montero. for the owners of such SUV can you compare it with the 4×2 fortuner. I have a friend who drives a fortuner and according to him the fortuner is better than the MOntero.
Please help.
Thanks
Am a proud owner of the 2009 montero sport 4×2, 2.5 liter turbo intercooled diesel. Took me three weeks going around testing most of the suv in this P1.2-1.5m price range and and lately, found the montero 4×2 smooth ride, high ground clearance, 7 seater cap and variable luggage space arrangement, suited my needs pretty well. Moving from the eastern mountainous province of Abra through 10km of rough road, one river crossing and 440km of paved road to Manila and the same km back, twice a month have only confirm my choice is right. I drive at a steady 140-150km/hr at the sctex & nlex while 80 – 120 outside the expressway and 30-60 at the rough unpaved road and consumed 80 liters back & forth (11.25liters/km). So far, driving comfort, noise level, smooth shifting, firm dynamic ride at the speedway contributed greatly to a faster travel, more relax driving and less fatigue and stress on arrival. My early preference is the furtuner because Im captivated by its looks and strongly recommended by my compadre in toyota. I’ve driven the suv to & pro, halfwaw at the same route and condition, and i would still go for the 2009 montero. Last week, via the Abra-Kalinga road, 65km of unpaved rough & gutted road, under heavy rain, I put my new Montero Sport 4×2 into paces, and traversed the worst road I ever travelled, back and forth without a hitch. Sorry guys, but at this point in time, i firmly believe the montero sport is still the best choice for myself and will not hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for an suv at this price range. U wont regret it….
how many days needed for the availabilty of the montero 2.5 white or dark grey..thanks
Is this New Montero Sport 2.5 GLS can be trade in to a 2007 Chevrolet Optra 1.6 LS Wagon, of course plus additional price? I really wanted to own an SUV since my present car is not applicable in a province due to very rough road situation in our place. Kindly advise in my e-mail and more or less, what will be the price minus amount of my car after trade in. My car is only 6000 km in speedometer since I only use this when I am in the Philippines, an OFW. Waiting for your advise. Thanks
I prefer to buy an SUV but still confused about the latest SUVs in the market. My first choice is Honda CRV but when suddenly browsed the features of Montero 2009 model, I’ve been surprised and had twofold minded then. Could anyone differentiate CRV from Montero in terms of performance. How long will it take to deliver/pick-up the SUVs(CRV or Montero) from the day of parchased ? Please advise.Kind regards, Tonski
when u say a car is a 4×2, does it mean it is a rear wheel drive? if so, does montero 4×2 a rear wheel driven unlike crv? thanks
Hi All!
Saw this on google Montero 4X2 vs Toyota Fortruner
http://www.topgear.com.ph/features/columns/wrong-car-right-car-online/mitsubishi-montero-sport-vs-toyota-fortuner
Hope this helps!
@Enciso Which one did you eventually get?
Today, Montero Sport is the best vs Toyota Fortuner! Great choice! I love our new car! Happy new year everyone!
)
Montero vs. Fortuner mas ok ang suspension ng montero
i like the montero sport inside and outside i think 4×4 much better then 4×2.
I just got my new 2010, 4×2 2.5 GLS Montero Sports 3 days ago. This bad boy is worth it! The ride is great. The engine response and power – no problem! we had the chance to drive it up on the hills of western tarlac going to Monastario of the Holy Cross. Those short but steep accent were done with ease. i did not notice the automatic shifting of gears while making the climb. Hence makes good impressions of MMC INVECS II technology one of the best in the industry. I have small children in my family and the safety features this vehicle have makes me feel more assured. The interior and exterior also does offer a feel good factor. How do I know? Well by the way my neighbors appreciations. I guess if you are not a serious off-roader and more of a family man enjoying the fruits of your labor, this is one off you could consider to add.
But as any sensible person would do, you have to test drive one for yourself to know the difference. You get what you pay for in this forum, you know…
Best regards to all…
GOT A BRAND MONTY A WEEK AGO AND I VERY SATISFIED ABOUT THE ENGINE RESPONSE CONSIDERING A 2500CC ENGINE WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. AND THE FUEL CONSUMPTION IS MORE SURPRISING RUNNING @ 120 TO 140 KPH CONSTANTLY IT CONSUMES 8.33 LITERS FOR 100KMS RUN. MONTY IS CURRENTLY THE BEST BUY VEHICLE IN TOWN
Running constantly @ max of 80 KPH fuel consumption is 18kms/liter. It’s great super tipid talaga !!!! try it

Got my quartz brown Mitsubishi Montero GLX 4×2 M/T last Nov. 08 2010. experienced a very nice ride and drive. Since this is the variant, it has been already fined tuned. For those who are planning to buy an SUV I recommned you should get a Montero.

Guys… Mitsubishi pa rin yan… For me their reliability is always a question. Try to check the blog sites where you can find fault of the cars you want to buy, like self acceleration. Workmanship wise, many cars are better than the mits…Other cars has solid and sturdy dash…panels are not loose, and tolerances are to the zeros…. Mits? Whoa, better think twice, looks can be deceiving.
Which is really better fortuner or montero?
hmmnn i wish to buy montero..pero mukhang hindi na ata kung may ganyang prob ung kontse
i got the 2009 montero sports 3.2 Gls se..man if your man enough, you gotta have one of this..feel the power everytime you roll out fellas..men only needs power of the beast..
I own a mistubishi montero sport 2010 model… Its great! The engine is awesome, the design is mind blowing, every penny spent is worth it! For y’all fellas out there test drive one now in ur local car dealer! And compare it to toyota fortuner, you’d definitely stick to montero…
Peace out!
I just bought just got me a 2012 Montero Sport 2012 AT with all its new features. It is impressive. The only comment I have is its carpet, it is made of a second class material. Anyway, please help me. Do you have some good shops making good, first class leather seats for the Montero. Pls Send me the address. I would not mind paying extra if the work is worth it. Thank you
Blessings
Thank you, I have recently been searching for information about this subject for a while and yours is the best I’ve found out so far. However, what in regards to the bottom line? Are you positive in regards to the source?|What i do not understood is actually how you’re now not really much more smartly-preferred than you might be right now. You’re so intelligent.
