Mazda came out with excellent fuel economy ratings in a recent fuel efficieny test by the Department of Energy. Mazda3’s 2.0L version received a rating of 16.28 km per liter while its 1.6L version is 15.89 km per liter fuel efficient. Mazda6’s 2.5L was given a fuel efficiency rating of 15.20 km per liter. These ratings prove that Mazda vehicles do not only offer superb performance and sporty handling but are fuel efficient and “green” as well.
Mazda Philippines’ flagship vehicle – the 2008 Mazda3 is a car that can be considered a Flexible Fuel Vehicle (FFV). FFV’s have specialized connections between the engine and the fuel system allowing them to use alternative fuels when available. The Mazda3 is E20 capable this means it can take in gasoline mixed with up to 20% Ethanol. Locally available E10 fuel can cost around P2 less per litre which means one could save a little over P100 with every top up of the Mazda 3’s 50 liter fuel tank. Mazda’s other line of vehicles, the sports sedan Mazda6, the Mazda MX-5 with power Retractable Hard Top and the luxury 7-seater crossover Mazda CX-9 are all E10 capable thus providing their owners the chance to switch to ethanol-blends when available. Mazda Philippines’ newest Zoom-Zoom pick-up, Mazda BT-50, on the other hand, is B-5 capable meaning it can take in fuel that is a mixture of 5% biodiesel and 95% petroleum diesel.
Amidst constantly rising gas prices, pushing for bio-fuel as an alternative is definitely a positive step in the right direction. As a chance to be the industry leader in caring for the environment, Mazda Philippines’ initiative is a major step towards a cleaner environment because Ethanol-blended fuel is not only cheaper per liter; its high-octane rating makes it better for the car’s engine. It reduces the amount of harmful carbon monoxide emissions, it is renewable and even biodegradable.
Compared to regular gasoline which uses lead as an octane enhancer, Ethanol-blended fuels have much higher octane levels. This results in a cleaner burn, which reduces engine deposits and even improves engine performance. What are you waiting for? I don’t know if this article is TRUE, i own a Mazda 3 1.6s 2008 model, and the above kilometer per liter fuel consumption is no where near the “REAL WORLD” figures,
i sometimes drop below 8 kilometers per liter due to heavy traffic, my best FC is 9.5 kilometers per liter mix city and hi-way driving.I am very light footed on gas that’s why i was able to achieve such figure. Even if the above test was conducted on hi way, i’m still in doubt with the outcome figure.
I hope Mazda should do a test in city driving environment and stop this DOE run just to entice buyers. I myself was a victim of their wrong publicity fuel data consumption.

also to mention how come my mazda familia only runs an average of 5 kilometers per liter on city driving and on the highway about only 10 kilometers.my car is a 1997 mazda familia with auto trans. 16 valve and in tip top condition. i have it tuned to several auto dealers in my place like honda,mitsubishi and ford and they dont find anything wrong with my car and still i get erratic idling when i step on the brake and the trans is in drive. can you people help me eradicate this phenomina, because to tell you frankly, im looking forward to buying a new car or pickup but with this problem i have im having my second thought. I dont want to sell this car, for im planning to give it to my daughter when she graduates this coming march from high school. thanks you very much and happy holidays to all. andrew giberson of komatsu algeria.

Baka naman hinihila ng kalabaw yan nung ubos na gas kaya umabot ng 15.89 kilometers per liter. O galing ng baguio city at pababa ang kalye at hinayaan na lang ang gravity ang magpatakbo sa kotse hangang rosario. Sobrang stir naman ang 15kms/liter. Eh ilang mazda 3 andito sa opisina namin ni isa walang lumagpas ng 10kms/liter eh puro highway driving pa dito. Next time, get a representative from the department of energy, media people na hindi corrupt at si pocholo ramirez para verify yang report ninyo.
