Isuzu Kicks off ‘Family Challenge’
June 19, 2008 by Tsikot

In these trying times when fuel prices are continuously soaring to all-time highs, the task of managing finances is no longer the sole responsibility of the dutiful mother but of every member of the family as well. Isuzu Philippines Corp. addresses this reality as it launches a five-month series of activities called the “Isuzu Family Challenge.” The campaign—which aims to emphasize Isuzu’s superiority in producing fuel-efficient diesel-powered vehicles—couldn’t have come at a better time as the market now clamors for a means of transport that is not heavy on fuel consumption.
For 17 Saturdays from June to November, the Isuzu Family Challenge will tour the diesel authority’s 20-dealership network. A one-day affair, the event combines both the Isuzu Challenge and the Isuzu Family Day, which were previously held separately. By fusing these two activities, Isuzu is clearly sending the message that fuel-efficiency awareness should now be a family thing.
The event consists of the fuel-economy contest for the adults and family activities for the kids. Using the Crosswind, the Global D-MAX and the Alterra, two participating adults—one driver and one navigator—shall drive to a predetermined route aiming to post the best fuel mileage for the day. Each adult contestant is entitled to bring three family members. Hence, one team may be composed by as many as eight members. There shall be a total of more than 12 teams for every leg of the series.
For the kick-off round on June 7 held at Isuzu Quezon Avenue, competing teams covered a total distance of 175 kilometers, starting from a fuel station on Quezon Avenue. They drove all the way to Montemar Beach Club in Bagac, Bataan, where the family activities took place.
The challenge is mainly a fuel-economy contest. The team that consumes the least amount of fuel over the set distance wins the competition. Participating Isuzu vehicles must be stock with odometers not exceeding 100,000 kilometers.
“It doesn’t matter who the vehicle owner is or what brand of vehicle he drives,” says IPC President Keiji Takeda. “The issue of fuel-efficiency is for everyone, especially those with families. Fortunately, Isuzu vehicles are not just fuel-efficient, they also provide generous space and passenger comfort for the whole family.”
In the fuel-economy drive last June 7, the husband and wife tandem of Ricardo and Nadine Flaviano onboard a Crosswind XL took top spot winning P15,000, with a fuel efficiency record of 24.313 km/l. Next were brothers Gregorio and Jimmy Crepe who drove a Crosswind XTi, winning P10,000 with a fuel efficiency record of 22.766 km/l. Second runner up was couple David Jan and Luzviminda Soriano who won P5,000 with a record of 22.275 km/l while onboard an Isuzu Alterra.
The remaining schedule of the Isuzu Family Day Challenge is as follows: Isuzu Alabang and Pasig, June 21; Isuzu San Pablo, June 28; Isuzu Makati, July 5; Isuzu Cavite, July 26; Isuzu Isabela, August 2; Isuzu Cabanatuan, August 9; Isuzu Bulacan, August 16; Isuzu Pampanga, September 6; Isuzu Pangasinan, September 13; Isuzu Batangas, September 20; Isuzu Mandaue, October 11; Isuzu Davao, October 18; Isuzu Iloilo, October 25; Isuzu Bacolod, November 8; and Isuzu Cagayan de Oro, November 15.

For this campaign, Isuzu partnered with Smart Communications, JVC Mobile Entertainment System, and 3M.
