Hyundai Launches Genesis Coupe in the Philippines
Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (Hari), official distributor of Hyundai vehicles in the Philippines, launched the newest luxury car in the market last week as it inaugurated its new headquarters right in the middle of the country’s financial district.
The Genesis Coupe, Hyundai’s newest and hottest addition to its popular line-up of vehicles in the local market, is now the centerpiece jewel gracing the KPMG Centre on Ayala Avenue in Makati, which is now serving as the official hub of the carmaker’s business in the country.
The new car was presented to personalities from the business and government sectors who were present during the inauguration of the KPMG Centre, which stands for Klynveld, Peat, Marwick and Goerdeler.
Among them were Department of Finance Secretary Margarito Teves, Ambassador Choi Joong Kyung of the Republic of Korea, Makati Councilor Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr., KPMG International deputy chairman John Harrison, Hari chairman emeritus Richard Lee, Hari EVP and COO Fe Perez-Agudo, KPMG Hong Kong chairman Carlsong Tong, KPMG chairman and CEO Roberto Manabat, and vice chairman for audit services Jorge San Agustin.
Launched earlier last year via a world premiere in Korea, the Genesis was adjudged as the 2009 North American Car of the Year, thus confirming “that it is every inch a statement of how Hyundai’s technology has come of age.”
A premium executive vehicle, the Genesis Coupe is sculpted in ultra-high-tensile steel, with a sensual body form characterized by sleek, powerful curves, undulating beltlines, and “Z” bodyside lines that make it intimidating yet artfully refined. It is powered by an all-aluminum 3.8-liter Lambda DOHC V6 engine, which delivers a maximum output of 300 horsepower and is mated to a rear-wheel drive six-speed automatic transmission. The car is said to be capable of accelerating from zero to 60 mph in just six seconds.
The Genesis is fitted with a sophisticated range of active and passive safety features such as an Electronic Stability Program (ESP) integrated with Antilock Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist System (BAS) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution System (EBD), for flexible drivability. To keep the car on course during sharp cornering maneuvers and to maintain balanced traction, it also comes with Cornering Brake Control (CBC) and Traction Control System (TCS).
Safety features include front SRS airbags, side and curtain airbags, pretensioner seatbelts, front active head restraint, and door locking system with Inside Handle Override (IHO), shift lever plus speed sensing auto door locks, and impact-sensing auto door unlock. Other features are an Electro Chromic Mirror (ECM) at the inside and outside rear view mirrors, a Smart key that enables the driver to open or shut the door by using convenient buttons located on the door handles, and a user-friendly Engine Start Button that is activated by the sensor key to provide additional security.
A 5.6-inch multifunction display flashes time, audio system information, the car’s ambient temperature and outside temperature. Included in the package is an audio system with AM/FM radio, six-CD changer, MP3 player, and Infinity sound system with center speaker and subwoofer. There are also standard auxiliary input jacks (3.5 mm minijack and USB input) to accommodate audio devices like an iPod.
The Coupe is available in three variants: the 2.0L 6M/T entry level that goes for P1.398 million; 2.0L M/T which sells for P1.654 million; 2.0L 5A/T priced at P1.758 million; 3.8 6M/T which sells for P1.735-million; and the P1.858-milion 3.8 6A/T.
The new Hari office, on the other hand, was designed by Casas+Associates and “is a marriage of classic and refreshingly modern architectural elements. Hari insiders say, “It communicates Hyundai’s progressive approach in designing cars.”
More than an employee-friendly workplace, the KPMG Centre for Hyundai has employed a variety of environment-friendly techniques to simplify building upkeep and revamp existing architectural components. An energy-saving lighting system and a passive cooling system for ventilation contribute to the building’s efficient operations. The entire ground floor is enhanced by a thoughtfully planned landscape area adjacent to the lift lobby, which serves as an oasis for the tenants of the building.
