CAMPI: Motor Sales Rose 33% in 10 Months
Motor vehicle sales sustained their momentum and rose 33 percent to 141,218 units in the 10 months to October against 106,146 a year ago, the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. said in a statement Tuesday.
“Sales continue to be sustained although October did show a slight drop of less than 1 percent,” group president Elizabet Lee said.
“The industry expects an uptick in the last two months of the year given the expected seasonality.”
October’s sales fell 0.9 percent to 14,317 from 14,447 in September, but they were still 12.2 percent higher than last year’s 12,761 units.
The industry is still looking to reach its target of 170,000 units in total sales this year.
Sales of passenger cars increased 32.2 percent to 49,485 units from 37,426 a year ago, and in October alone rose 18.2 percent to 5,081 units from 4,298.
But commercial vehicles continued to lead, with their sales rising 33.5 percent to 91,733 units from 68,720 a year ago—enough to make up 65 percent share of the total vehicle sales. October sales alone went up 9.1 percent to 9,236 units from 8,463.
Sales of Asian utility vehicles climbed 26.7 percent to 30,387 units from 23,974 last year, with October’s sales rising 6.7 percent to 3,149 units from 2,951.
Sales of light commercial vehicles jumped 39.4 percent to 58,894 units from 42,236 a year ago, and in October increased. 11.6 percent to 5,782 units from 5,182.
Sales of light trucks grew 5.8 percent to 1,665 units from 1,574 a year ago, and in October alone improved by 32 percent to 198 units from 150.
But trucks and bus sales fell 15.9 percent to 787 units from 936 a year ago, and in October alone dipped 40.6 percent to 107 units from 139.
Toyota Motors Philippines Corp. retained the number one position with its sales growth of 27.4 percent to 46,633 units from 36,593. The Vios remained the company’s bestseller for October with 1,489 units sold and a 10-month total of 12,536.
Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. remained in second spot after its sales jumped 40.9 percent to 26,504 units from 18,806 for a market share of 18.8 percent.
Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. placed third after its sales grew 90.4 percent to 17,118 units from 8,990 for 12.1-percent share of the market. Julito G. Rada
