3M OFFICIALLY ANSWERS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT 3M AUTOMOTIVE TINT to correct misconceptions and pieces of misinformation, as well as to answer every juan’s question about 3M Automotive Tint.
Q: We were told that 3M is made in China. Sometimes, we hear that it came from Taiwan. Once and for all, where are 3M Automotive Tints made?
A: All 3M Automotive Tints are made in the US.
Q: I was once told that not all 3M tints have print marks or logo. Is this true?
A: False. ALL 3M AUTOMOTIVE TINTS HAVE PRINT MARKS. If it does not have a print mark, it is not 3M.
Q: Due to the proliferation of fake 3M Automotive Tints, we are advised to always look for the 3M print mark. But how do we know if it is the “authentic” print mark or logo?
A: 3M print mark is a fine print, around ½” square dotted logo.
Q: When I inquired in my favorite tint shop, I was offered 3 different choices of 3M. What are the differences of these variants? Why is it that they are priced differently?
A: 3M Philippines offers 4 variants of Automotive Tint: Crystalline, Black Chrome, Color Stable and FX-ST. The difference in price is mainly due to the technology, number of layers and adhesive used. The higher the price, the more advanced the technology is, the better the performance.
3M™ Crystalline Automotive Tints (CR70)
The Clear Choice
3M Crystalline has the highest technology among all tints. It lets you enjoy maximum clarity with advanced heat rejection. Car owners can drive around and enjoy the view outside without the discomfort from the sun’s heat.
3M™ Black Chrome Automotive Tints (BC10, BC20, BC35)
3M™ Black Chrome Automotive Tints are a premium line of metallic automotive tints that not only enhance your vehicle’s appearance, but offer excellent heat rejection, glare control, privacy, and protection from the damaging UV effects of the sun. 3M™ Black Chrome Automotive Tints come with a limited lifetime warranty against peeling, bubbling, blistering, fading or discoloration.
3M™ Color Stable Automotive Tints (CS10, CS20, CS35)
3M Color Stable is a line of premium, high heat rejecting black automotive tints that maintain its color and will never fade to purple.
3M™ FX ST Automotive Tints (ST5, ST20, ST35)
FX Standard Auto Film delivers great looks and great performance. It has a scratch resistant coating, and several different shading levels in an attractive charcoal hue.
Q: How do I compute heat rejection? Based on the data that was shown to me by the installer, it seems that 3M has lower heat rejection compared to other tints.
A: Look at the total solar energy rejection (TSER) value. This describes the total amount of solar energy (UV+ visible + IR) that is blocked, or rejected, from passing through the window. However, higher TSER is not always the better performing film. You can always increase the TSER number by simply making a film darker or more reflective. Remember that TSER looks at UV, visible and IR. To make an apple to apple comparison, you need to look at films with the same visible light performance.
Q: Why is FX-ST priced lower than CS? They look the same to me. What is their difference and how can I tell?
A: Although they may look the same, close inspection will reveal that CS is black or blue-black. The FX-ST film is green-black. The difference in price is mainly due to the technology used. 3M Color-Stable Automotive Tint is made with a unique and advanced technology that provides lifetime warranty against color change. It also provides superior optical clarity.
On the other hand, FX ST is made with standard technology that provides great performance and looks good for up to 3 years.
Q: How do I care for my 3M Automotive Tint?
A: Here are the following ways to care for your 3M Automotive Tint:
- Do not post or attach any material with adhesive on glass with 3M Automotive Tint
- Do not apply any external pressure (e.g. window cleaning) within 1 week of installation. After a week, it may be washed using common window cleaning solutions.
- Avoid using sharp and pointed objects in removing dirt and stains.
- Do not use bristled/abrasive cleaning materials.
- Clean your 3M Automotive Tint with a soft and clean synthetic sponge (3M Cellulose Sponge).

Is it alright to add another layer of tint to the present tint? A 3m BC tint to the 3m clear tint? Will it ptovide additional protecxtion against UV and heat? Thanks for any information

i have a 3M tint installed by winterpine. DId you have any other logo because my logo is different and not a dotted image. As i can remember i had a panther 25 shade.
Is my tint genuine? hope you could show us your old logo, and also my logo already faded.

To answer your question, yes, adding a second layer will improve IR (infrared) rejection. However, the improvement will be minimal. Also, we do not recommend this as application of the 2nd tint may cause appearance of bubbles.
We have to ask you this, what is your objective in having a 2nd layer of tint? To improve heat rejection? privacy? 3M BC has different shades that have different levels of heat rejection. You might want to check out the 3M glass stands your installer has.To Mr. Van, before we can answer your question, we have to ask when you had your tint installed. as i can remember i had my tint installed between Year 2000-2003.
The logo already faded. Hope to hear some clarification on this. I will
try to provide a screen shot of my logo if i could still find 1 visible. -

Mr. Van, the Panther tints were phased out and it was replaced with Color Stable. The logos of the two are different. The fading of the logo is also normal due to wear and tear. The fading can also be the result of the years of cleaning and wiping the tint.

May I know where I can have crystalline tint installed in our fortuner? I heard it’s hard to find.

My 3M tint at the windshield area has a small bubbles. According to my agent at Toyota this is because of the rush installation since normally 3M is installed more or less 4hrs for toyota avanza.
I was also disappointed to note that at the rear glass of my car the tint was cut into 3 parts.This is the normal way to install for 3M tint he added.
How true is this and what should be done to remove the bubbles?
