Petron Offers Free Service Check-Ups for Holy Week Travel

For the 22nd consecutive year this Holy Week, oil industry leader Petron Corporation will once again stage its Lakbay Alalay program as part of its public service during the annual exodus of motorists from Metro Manila to the provinces.

Participating Petron Service Stations will offer free service checks on tire pressure, oil and radiator water level, and brakes inspection from February 24 to March 23. Motorists are encouraged to avail of the free safety checks to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy for worry-free travel.

From Holy Wednesday (March 19) until Easter Sunday (March 23), Petron Lakbay Alalay will offer free roadside assistance inside the major tollways including the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), Star Tollway, and Coastal Road.

The Petron Lakbay Alalay program offers free minor car repairs, first aid, emergency phone calls, radiator water, and Treats bottled water. Radio traffic reports courtesy of Petron will also keep motorists informed about driving conditions.

CNG Buses Soon to Ply Metro Manila Routes

Several buses will soon be plying their Metro Manila routes on compressed natural gas, and the government is poised to launch its alternative fuel project with free rides from Batangas and Laguna to the metropolis.

According to Mario Marasigan, director of the energy utilization and management bureau of the Department of Energy, 10 to 12 percent of the premature deaths in Metro Manila are caused by outdoor pollution, and 80 percent of the pollution is caused by vehicle emissions. The government is pressing the implementation of an alternative fuels program to solve this problem.

Marasigan said the government has tapped the private sector to implement the program using compressed natural gas, a clean and cost-efficient fuel that is being promoted for use by the public transportation sector.

Philippine Vehicle Sales Jump 14.3% in Jan-Feb 2008

The auto industry continued to post strong sales figures this year as it chalked up double-digit growth in the first two months.

A joint report by the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) and the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI) showed that their combined January and February sales went up 14.3 percent compared with the same period a year ago.

Infocom Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of ePLDT, and Tsikot.com join forces to bring to Pinoy motoring enthusiasts Tsikot.Tv, a one-hour automotive show to be shown on Cube iTV Channel 67 in SkyCable and Home Cable.  It will be shown daily, at the prime time slot of 8:30 - 9:30 PM.
