Toyota invests additional P5.4B in RP plant

Toyota Auto Parts Philippines Inc. (TAP), a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (TMPC), has invested an additional P5.4 billion for the expansion of its plant in Santa Rosa, Laguna.

In an interview at the sidelines of the Toyota Thanksgiving party held Monday night at the Sofitel Hotel, Toyota vice president Rommel Gutierrez said the new facility is expected to be operational by August this year.

Toyota Positive in Bagging 40% of RP Auto Market in 2008

Toyota Motors Philippines Corp. is eyeing to capture an industry-leading 40 percent of the automotive market this year as the Japanese auto giant continues to expand its product line.

In an interview over the weekend, Rommel Gutierrez, TMP vice president, said Toyota is confident it can increase its market share by two percentage points this year.

24 January 2008.  A new fuel economy record was set on January 18 in the Petron Xtra Mile Challenge Champions Edition with the winning car logging in a total distance of 1,402.4 kilometers on one full tank of Petron Xtra Unleaded.

Traversing the length of Luzon from Bangui just next to the resort town of Pagudpud in Ilocos Norte, all the way down to the southernmost tip in Matnog, Sorsogon, and then turning around to stop in Bgy. Bonifacio in the town of San Fernando, Camarines Sur, brothers Emilio “Tootsie” and Emmanuel “Mansu” Zayco broke their own prior record in a Honda Jazz 1300 automatic transmission sponsored by Honda Cars Kalookan.

CAMPI Breaks 100,000-Benchmark in 2007

The Philippine automotive industry sold more than 108,000 units of vehicles last year, the first time in 10 years that the auto industry surpassed the 100,000-benchmark, the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) disclosed.

Sales registered in 2007 is 18.4 percent more than what was sold in 2006. CAMPI President and Universal Motors Corp. Senior Vice-President for Marketing Elizabeth Lee said the increase in sales was due to a number of marketing activities, including the staging of the 1st Philippine International Motor Show.

MMDA Pledges Traffic on Edsa to Improve This Year

Chairman Bayani Fernando of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) yesterday said traffic along Edsa and in six other major roads in Metro Manila is expected to dramatically improve with the implementation of several new traffic engineering projects this year.

He said the MMDA is set to resume shortly the construction of a footbridge in Eastwood, Libis in Quezon City where a spate of vehicular accidents involving pedestrians has been recorded for several years now due to hordes of pedestrians spilling over the streets, and dangerously moving across the other side oblivious to oncoming and speeding vehicles.
